A Potential Vacation?

Zannatul Lamea

Aspoonfull of procrastination, tweak of dilly-dallying and checklist of “Things to be done” getting longer and longer - well that's how my vacations always turn out to be. No matter how much I promise myself each time that I would definitely be utilizing my vacation very constructively, I always end up shaking my head by the time my vacations are over in complete despondence; Speaking of vacation, it's the vacation a.k.a boredom season running. It's actually weird, really! When we are cramped up with hectic academic schedules of classes, exams, reports, surveys, projects and what not-we keep on yearning for vacations; and when we finally get one, all we do is twist and turn over and lengthen our afternoon naps! Well at one point of time, vacations do get boring. I mean how long does it feel good to do nothing! So here are few plans on how to make full use of the semester breaks or vacations.

The most common thing to do during vacations is travelling. Well it's always good to have a change, we all do need an alteration in our otherwise not so eventful lives. But instead of travelling to faraway countries, it might be a good idea to explore the beauties of our homeland. Bangladesh is rich with natural beauties, be it for her boundless greenery, be it for her coral reefs lining the borders at sea, be it for her adventurous hill tract, be it for her quiet villages with innumerable sparkling streams and rivers, or be it for the largest mangrove forest in the world. I am quite sure exploring the nooks and corners of our own beautiful motherland will surely leave you with an euphoric feeling. So, all of you out there, if you want to experience a change, with affordable cost and numerous adventures start packing your bags right now and get ready for hitch hiking!

If you want to use your vacations for something productive, you could go for learning short courses that would not only add to your curriculum vitae, but would make you even more efficient, increasing your chances towards a better career. If you are a creative head, you could start learning Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop and then start making graphic illustrations, objects and use it for a lot of other purpose. You could also learn website developing, or a programming language as well. Possessing a computer skill can always provide you with better opportunity than others. If you are totally a nutshell, just willing to spend the entire vacation as it goes, even you could make some itsy bitsy use of it in someway. Try renovating your room, maybe colouring it with vibrant colours, you could do some minor changes in arrangement of your room furniture to give it a different look. This not only makes your time being used, it also will provide you with a sense of satisfaction. You can re-decorate your room matching your personality and preferences.

Another good idea might be to culture your hobbies. Keep on doing things randomly, start refreshing your skill profile. We all are good at something. Many a times, unique skills are left unexplored due to lack of culturing them. You never know how good you might be at things. Start with doing whatever you felt like doing, enjoyed doing before. If you are a music lover, you could start playing any musical instrument you always wanted to play. If you liked painting, sit with brushes and palettes and draw whatever you like. If you enjoyed dancing, bring out your chime anklets and put on the music players. If you prefer writing, start scribbling whatever comes to your mind. If you are into sports, thrash your opponent in the sports grounds. It's always worth giving it a shot!

According to Marian Williamson , “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? Your playing small does not serve the world.” True, isn't it? Chase your dreams! You never know how immense possibilities you are holding within yourself!
