BUFC organizes 'The Circle'

Iffat Jabin

IT was exactly 2:00 pm in the afternoon when suddenly the cafeteria door opened and fresh new faces started pouring in. They all seemed very energized and eager about the upcoming moments and why wouldn't they be! This was the event that each new BUFC members had been waiting for. On 29th March Saturday, BRAC University Film Club hosted an event that emphasized building the spirit of team work and maintaining originality of the new recruited members. 'The Circle where everybody becomes one' did represent one sole entity that collaged everyone within a single mass. Circle was organized solely for the students, mainly the freshers, who just became part of BUFC. The underlying purpose was introducing these new faces to the existing team members of BUFC and also to each other.

As an inmnovative beginning, each participating students had to give fingerprints to show that they were here! The Students had to sit on his or her specified department that comprises of HR, Research and Archive, Finance, Event management etc marked on the floor guided by their respective AGS (Assistant General Secretary). After everyone was seated, Ahsan (the mentor), Hasan Sameer (the GS), and Risalat introduced everyone. Once the introductory part was over, each department was given out papers to describe their own department.

The explanations were even funnier because most of them kept on telafying their respective AGSs especially “the great RANA bhai” and “Mithila apu”. Getting done with that, all the members were divided into circles of five and were asked to perform an item, including the AGS. The name of the circle was based on movies like “Garam Masala”, “Gladiator”, and “2 Fast 2 Furious” which was the theme of performance of each group.

Before going for the evening snacks, members were sent back to their groups and were given out a paper again. The GS talked about few projects that the club had in mind and asked the students to jot down their ideas and thoughts into that big piece of paper. This was a marvelous idea because this helped the freshers be at ease presenting their plan on the project and at the same time bring out the vision that each of them possessed. There was a break for refreshments. Soon after the break each department was asked to present their ideas in front of everyone.

BUFC being a film club brought out all the projects that they had been working on in this semester. You would be surprised to know that this club alone worked on 22 different projects, which the GS proudly claimed that no other club has done. The show ended with a small DJ party that everyone loved and felt was actually the highlight of the evening.

I personally was overwhelmed seeing how passionate and dedicated each member was. Truly, this would not have been a successful without the untiring work and devotion of each members.
