Journalists make people aware against injustice at DIU

Daffodil International University organized a launching ceremony of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication and discussion on 'Responsibilities of Mass Media in Democracy' on 27th March 2008. Mr. Mahbubul Alam, Former Advisor, Caretaker Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh and Editor, The Independent, was the chief guest of the occasion. Mr. Rahat Khan, Editor, The Daily Ittefaq; Dr. Sakahawat Ali Khan, Professor, Department of Mass Communication and Journalism, University of Dhaka and Mr. Motiur Rahman, Editor, The Daily Prothom Alo, attended the program as special guests.

Dr.Golam Rahman, head of JMC and Dean of Humanities and Social Science Faculty of DIU, presented the keynote paper at the discussion. Vice-Chancellor of DIU Prof. Aminul Islam; Dean of Commerce and Economics Faculty Prof. Shahjahan Mia and Registrar Prof. Dr. Mizanur Rahman also spoke on the occasion. Bureau Chief of AP Farid Hossain, Special Correspondent of BSS Shafiqul Kabir, Lecturer of IUB Masud Chowdhury, Associate Professor of DU MCJ Robayat Ferdous and Associate Editor of the News Today Shafiul Alam were present, among other guests, at the discussion.

Chuti Shahitto Angon organizes cultural program

‘Chuti Shahitto Angon’ of Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University (MBSTU) arranged a discussion and cultural program on March 30 in the Seminar room of Department of Environmental Science and Resource Management to commemorate the Independence Day . Professor Dr Monimul Huque, Vice Chancellor of MBSTU was present in the program as the chief guest. Register of MBSTU, Advisors of "Chuti " and two freedom fighters also attended the program.

Job Fair and Seminars at Faculty of Business Studies, DU

Corejobs-bd.com started its journey with a two-day long job fair at the Faculty of Business Studies premises from March 22-23, 2008. Core Resources Ltd, the owning company of the job portal organized the event on the Faculty premises in association with the Faculty of Business Studies, Dhaka University.

Professor S. M. A. Faiz, Vice Chancellor, Dhaka University inaugurated the Job Fair as well as the career web portal www.corejobs-bd.com. Professor Dr. Md. Serajul Islam, Dean, Faculty of Business Studies, Dhaka University was the guest of honor on the occasion.

A total of nine seminars also took place on different career related topics. Professions in the field of Entrepreneurship, Finance, MIS, International Business Management, Accounting, Tourism and Hospitality Management, Marketing, Banking and HRM were the topics of the seminars.

VIYELLATEX, BRAUN, SANDOZ, Novartis, Citycell were among the 13 participating corporate houses in the fair. The question and answer session of each seminars were very enjoyable.


Film Festival on 25th March by DELL

DELL (Department of English Language & Literature) Drama Club of Premier University Chittagong, organized a film festival on 25th March 2008 at its auditorium. Scintillating documentaries like ‘Shei Rater Kotha Bolte Asche’ by Kawser Chudhury, ‘Stop Genocide’ from BTV Archive, and ‘Mukhtir Gaan’ by Tareq Masud and Catherine Masud were projected before a huge audience that included the students of the university, guests and teachers. The DELL chairman Mr. Sadat Zaman Khan inaugurated the daylong program. Asif Iqbal Chowdhury, Rajib Sinha, Fowzia Sultana and Nadia Begum were the organizers of the successful event.

Primeasia University Holds Freshers' Orientation

The department of Pharmacy of Primeasia University organized freshers' reception and orientation program for the 12th Batch (Summer Semester 2008) on 1 April 2008 at the university premises.

Prof. Dr. Gias Uddin Ahmad, Vice Chancellor of Primeasia University attended the program as chief guest while Dr. ANM Meshquat Uddin, Pro Vice Chancellor of the university was the special guest. Professor Sk. FerozUddin Ahmed, Head, department of Pharmacy presided over the function. Among others Mr. Abul Kashem Molla, Registrar of Primeasia University, Prof. Zahid Uddin Mahmud Khan, Head, department of Microbiology, PAU, Prof. Dr. AJM Omar Faruque, Head, department of Biochemistry, Dr. Md. Shahidul Haque, Head, department of BBA, M. Azharul Haque, Head, department of ETCE & CSE, Mr. Sk. Md. Hasanuzzaman, Controller of Examinations spoke on the session.

Silver Jubilee of RU Finance and Banking department

The Finance and Banking department of Rajshahi University (RU) celebrated its two-day long silver jubilee function with fanfare, festivity and enthusiasm. Marking the completion of 25 long years of the department, the dazzling program was not only a celebration for the department but also made the whole campus alive. On the first day, there was the inauguration, a colorful rally, a discussion meeting, academic exhibition of photographs and paper clippings, reminiscences and a cultural function.

The day's program started at 10 am through a colorful rally with a large number of teachers, guests, former and present students of the department parading the main streets of the campus. The rally was inaugurated by RU Vice Chancellor Professor M Altaf Hossain through freeing several pigeons. The colorful rally was launched from the BBA faculty and it concluded at Kazi Nazrul Islam auditorium.

After the rally, a discussion meeting was held at the Kazi Nazrul Islam auditorium where RU Vice Chancellor was present as the Chief Guest. Vice Chancellor of Northern University Professor Dr. M Shamsul Haq delivered his speech as the Silver Jubilee addressor.

Present Chairman of the Department and Convener of the program organizing committee, Professor Dr. Md. Meherul Islam presided over the program while RU Pro-VC Prof. Mamunul Karamat, Dean of Business Studies Faculty Prof. Md. Omar Ali, Deputy Managing Director of NCC Bank S M Shamsul Alam addressed as special guest of the program. A special crest was given to Sohel Imroj Syeed, Regional Manager of Warid Telecom for the continuous support. Soon after lunch, a reminiscence program was held at the same auditorium and lastly, a cultural function with the participation of local and departmental artists (young teachers and students) started at the auditorium and continued up to 8 pm.

The Finance and Banking department started its journey on July 1, 1981 and has some praiseworthy achievements in these long 25 years. It is a department, which has history of minimum session jams, regular classes and examinations.

1971 Liberation War in Our Literature

Wars of liberation have always exerted a deep and widespread influence on the literature of the peoples concerned. The patriotic and revolutionary zeal as well as the exaltation and suffering accompanying such wars have left their mark on the creative writing in our time and before, said National Professor Kabir Chowdhury, an award-winning educationist, writer and translator. The seminar titled “1971 Liberation War in Our Literature” was held at Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) at its Baridhara Campus on Tuesday 25, 2008.

Examples of how our poetry is inspired by the liberation war, Professor Chowdhury first said our poets present such diverse emotions as hope, anger, despair, heroic protest and unflinching determination.

On the occasion Professor Kabir Chowdhury donated several of his books to IUB English department which were written by him. Among other present at the lecture were Prof. Bazlul Mobin Chowdhury Vice Chancellor IUB, Prof. Rafiqul Islam Vice Chancellor ULAB, Prof. Nazrul Islam, Prof. Niaz Zaman, Prof.Shawkat Hussain, and Mr. Md Shaiful Islam.


Sony Ericsson Musical Experience

Until now Sony Ericsson has hosted 5 “Sound Check” events and it's 5th event took place at D'pavement Café, Dhanmondi on the 25th of March 2008.This time, the crowd was mesmerized by popular rock tracks from the uprising and most talented bands “Radioactive”, “Powersurge” and “Scar”. The rocking musical evening was a perfect blend of youth and entertainment.

Sony Ericsson has always been a top charter in giving a good and complete musical experience.


Orientation of Life Science School in Khulna University

An orientation program of session 2007-2008 students of Life Science School in Khulna University was held in 2nd academic building auditorium on 30th March 2008.The function started at 10am and ended at 1.00pm. A total number of 250 fresh students who were qualified in the admission test participated in the orientation program .It was a very lively and instructive orientation program.Honarable Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Saifuddin Shah was the chief guest and give valuable speech to the newly enrolled students, while treasurer Prof. Seikh Abdul Hasib was the special guest. The dean of Life Science School Prof. Dr. M. Rakib Uddin presided over the orientation program.



DU inter-department cricket competition

In the Dhaka University north zone inter-department cricket competition, the Marketing Department defeated the Public Administration Dept. by six wickets to become the champions of the tournament. This was held on 2nd april at the Jagannath Hall ground.

Bangladesh national team opener Shahriar Nafees scored an unbeaten 27 as the winners reached the target of 127 losing four wickets in 19.3 overs in reply to the opponent's 126.Tajul was adjudged man-of-the-match for scoring 54. Public administration managed 126 for seven in the stipulated 20 overs with Golam Hossain making 48 runs. Ahad and Faisal claimed three wickets each for the winners. DU Pro-Vice Chancellor Dr AFM Yousuf Haider distributed the prizes as the chief guest.


Voluntary Blood donation camp at EWU

A voluntary blood donation camp was held in East West University on 31st April. The Pharmacy Club and Rotaract Club of the University jointly organized the camp. The Vice Chancellor of EWU Professor Mohammed Sharif inaugurated the camp activities at 10:30 AM. The Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof. Md. Kamrul Hasan was also present in the occasion. The vice chancellor expressed his contentment about the overall management of the camp and specially thanked Dr. Sufia Islam, moderator of pharmacy club and Nahid Hasan Khan, moderator of rotaract club for their initiatives. Students showed keen interest where a group of motivators worked on the field. A total number of 164 Units of blood were collected. It was the highest collection in any of the blood camps so far held in EWU campus. Every donor was given free test reports of 5 Diseases- AIDS, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, Malaria, and Syphilis.

Both the clubs and the students of EWU are looking forward to organize and participate in other such humanitarian efforts.


BUET in ACM-ICPC World Finals

ACM-ICPC Asia Region Dhaka site champion team “BUET Sprinter” has left Dhaka for Banff, Alberta, Canada to participate in the ACM ICPC World Finals for the eleventh consecutive time since the year 1998. ACM or Association for Computing Machinery is the world's first and largest scientific and educational computing society. International Collegiate Programming Contest or ICPC operating under the auspices of ACM, is the top most programming contest of the world for unveristy and college students. 6,700 teams representing 1,821 universities in 83 countries competed at worldwide 213 sites from September to December 2007.

The 2008 ACM-ICPC World Finals will be held from April 6-10, 2008, at the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel in Alberta, Canada, hosted by the University of Alberta.

BUET Sprinter team consists of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) students Sabbir Yousuf Sanny, Md. Mahbubul Hasan, Shahriar Rouf and coach Dr. Md. Humayun Kabir. North American Bangladeshi Islamic Community (NABIC) has sponsored four Dhaka-Calgary-Dhaka air-tickets for the team.


Quiz and art competition at Radiant

Radiant International School organised a Quiz competition in late February and an art competition in the first week of March as part of the regular co-curricular activities. The quiz, which was on Mughal History, invoked a lot of interest among the students with members of each team enthusiastically gathering information on the Mughal era. After a very tough competition between the two finalists, team Babur became champions beating team Mumtaz Mahal. The Art competition was very much enjoyed by the junior students as well.
