University students work for juniors

Mosiur Rahman Rajib

INTELLIGENCE or merit is not a privilege but a responsibility. Being university students we are required to be responsible towards the people and the the society. These accountabilities inspired us to introduce some worthwhile measures in educational and social fields. That is why we are providing support to high school and college students as well as to some deserving people. Our motto is 'Introducing Pragmatic Steps for Building Better Future'. This impetus enthused us to be united under the roof of Nexus University Students Association, NUSA. It is supported by local elites, officials and teachers from schools, colleges and universities.

NUSA is the organization of students belonging to Pirojpur District who are studying in different universities at home and abroad. NUSA members have been working for ensuring more students to come for university education as well as for work oriented education and training like Garments Merchandising, Physiotherapy, Tourism and Catering Management and so on according to their potential.

We, the NUSA members are working voluntarily to support education in an informal manner and work for people facing different problems. To attain our goal we are going through some regular activities in Pirojpur. Firstly we organized a Learning Camp which accommodated fifty five students from seven different schools of Sadar Upazilla. Senior students of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology BUET, University of Dhaka and of other universities taught in different sessions for the students. Two special sessions on career planning were taken by the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Pirojpur and one senior officer for the armed forces. This successful initiation inspired us to arrange a Post SSC and HSC Counseling Program. This was a program where the post S.S.C and H.S.C students of different schools and colleges were advised to choose the institutions they would be going for higher education. And simultaneously admission procedures were also discussed there. Lately an English Learning Workshop has been organised to enhance students' English proficiency. Experts from English Language Teaching Improvement Project, ELTIP and English teachers from government colleges have taught the students there. Fifty students from different schools and madrasahs took part in the workshop and received certificates for successful participation. In addition to this, NUSA members worked voluntarily to help the SIDR victims by distributing relief goods among them.
