ICECC held at RU

The International Conference on Electronics, Computer and Communication was recently held in Rajshahi University. The three-day long international conference (27-29 June) brought over 400 researchers from different parts of the country and 40 eminent scientists from India, the USA, Canada, UK, Japan, Nepal and South Korea. Students, academics and researchers presented over 200 papers in this conference.

Chairman of the University Grants Commission Professor Nazrul Islam was the chief guest in the inauguration programme. Prof. Bozlul Mobin Chawdhury, Vice Chancellor of the Independent University of Bangladesh was present as the special guest while Chairman of the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission Dr. Shafiqul Islam Bhuiyan and Treasurer of RU Professor M. Mozammel Hoque was present as the guest of honour at the session. RU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Mamnunul Keramat was present as the chief patron of the programme. Professor Md. Mozaffor Hossain of Rajshahi University was the convener of the conference and Bangladesh Electronic Society, Rajshahi organized it.

Prize Giving Ceremony of Youth Wave Students' Society


Youth Wave Students' Society, Dhaka City North, arranged a Prize Giving Ceremony for the Uttara Zone on 28th June 2008, Saturday Afternoon 4:00 pm at the Asian University Auditorium at Uttara for a Quiz Competition held on the occasion of Independence Day. The programme was presided over by Prof. Dr. Abul Hasan Md. Sadek, the Vice Chancellor of Asian University of Bangladesh. Former Chief Justice and Chief Advisor of the Non-Party Caretaker Government Mr. Latifur Rahman was the Chief Guest at the programme. The opening speech was given by Abdullah Al Mashud, president of the Society's Dhaka City North branch and Muhammad Asadullah, chief coordinator of the society directed the programme. Executive Editor of Monthly Youth Wave, Shishir Muhammad Manir was the main speaker and gave a presentation titled “Bangladesh, a land of great possibilities”. The special guests of the programme were Md. Shamsul Arefin Hasib, director of the Students' Welfare Association (SWA) and Muhammad Ashraful Hoque, Founder Principal of the Holy Child College.

In the Prize Giving Ceremony, guests handed over the crests to the top 20 participants and gift packs with certificates to all participants. Syed Tajwar Azam from Scholastica 1st, Nadiha Noor Chelsea 2nd and Md. Faiyaz Hussain from Mastermind occupied 3rd position in the quiz competition. About 1200 students from Scholastica, Matermind, Int'l Turkish Hope, Bangladesh Int'l Tutorial, Don Bosco, The Message, Int'l Education Center, Red Brick Int'l, Rajuk, Holy Child, Holy Crescent, Global Int'l and other English medium schools of Uttara participated in the Quiz competition.


Nazrul- Rabindra Jayonty at ULAB

University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) celebrated Nazrul-Rabindra Jayonty and Club Day for the freshers of summer'08 in its Dhanmondi Campus on Thursday, 26th June.

ULAB Vice Chencellor Prof. Rafiqul Islam inaugurated the programme and talked about Rabindranath Tagore and Kazi Nazrul Islam, which was followed by a welcome speech. Riaheen Farzana, senior lecturer and co-coordinator of co-curricular activities presented the welcome speech. All the 16 clubs of the university gave relevant information regarding their club activities to the freshers. There was a quiz and a presentation on Rabindranath and Nazrul's colourful life. The day's programme concluded with a session of musical drama (Nrittonatto) 'Chandalika' performed by ULAB students. 'Chandalika' was directed by famous dramatist Khaled Khan and Arno Komolika.


Environment Club in Pollutech Fair, 2008

Environment Club of Independent University, Bangladesh has participated in Pollutech Fair, 2008. The fair was held in China-Bangladesh friendship center from 26 th-29th June. The Environment Club is an environment watch group primarily concerned with promoting environmental awareness. The club was established in 22nd April, 2002 on the International Earth Day. As an environmental activist, Environment Club actively tries to promote positive environmental changes through our various campaigns and events with a view to ensuring a sustainable future. The club participates and organises events, seminars, workshops, open discussions, campaigns on different environmental issues with different NGOs and institutions to conserve the environment of Bangladesh as well as the world.


AUB genius hunt 2008

Asian University of Bangladesh (AUB), Dhanmondi Campus recently organised a quiz competition entitled “AUB Genius Hunt 2008”. Prof. Dr. Abulhasan M. Sadeq, Vice-Chancellor of AUB was present as the Chief Guest. Prof. Muhammad Mujibur Rahman, the Treasurer of AUB and Poet Nasir Ahmed, Feature Editor, The Daily Shamokal, were present as Special Guests.

The team headed by Md. Amzad Hossain and Kazi Ayesha Nipa became champion. Both the students are from BBA 31st Batch. The programme was co-ordinated by Mr. Sarwar Khaled, Senior Lecturer, the Department of Business Administration, AUB and Md. Syful Islam Shohag, a student of BBA 23rd Batch conducted the program. The program was presided over by Dr. M. Razaul Karim, Director, Academic Affairs, Dhanmondi Campus. Prof. Md. Ashraf Hossain, Acting Dean of Business School delivered the introductory speech.


Career Seminar “Get Set for Success”

Acareer seminar was held on 28 June 2008 at Brac Centre, Brac Inn, Mohakhali, Dhaka. The seminar entitled “GET SET FOR SUCCESS” covered success techniques, career planning and job search methods. The speakers were Abdur Quaderi (managing Consultant, Career Design International, Beisbane, Australia) and Wing Commander (Retd) Muhammad Alamgir (Director of Career Design Ltd., Bangladeshi Subsidiary of Career Design International.). The seminar introduced innovative approach and focus on career planning strategies.


Discussion meeting and cultural programme held at NUB Rajshahi Campus

Law and Justice Faculty of Northern University Bangladesh (NUB) Rajshahi Campus organised a cultural programme at its auditorium recently. Md. Mubinul Islam was present as the chief guest while the head of the BBA Faculty Prof. M Amzad Hossain and the head of the English Faculty Prof. Zahirul Islam were present as special guests on the discussion programme. Head of the Law faculty Prof. Foiz Uddin chaired the session. A cultural programme was held following the discussion programme participated by the students and young teachers of the department.


Valediction of '03 Batch of Soil Science Discipline of Khulna University

A grand valediction of '03 batch of Soil Science Discipline, Khulna University, with the motto “ How sad and bad to say bye” was held on the 29th of June 2008. The ceremony was presided over by the Dean of Life Science School, Dr. M. Rakib Uddin. After the first session the second session was followed by a spectacular cultural programme organised by the students of Soil Science Department. An assortment of items like songs, dances, recitation of poems, news related to Soil Science Discipline etc made the programme lively. All the students of Soil Science Discipline participated with enthusiasm.

ASK met Law students at Chittagong

Legal aid and human rights organization Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK) met with the students of Department of Law of University of Chittagong (CU) and Premier University, Chittagong on June 25, 2008 at Community Development Centre (CODEC) office in Chittagong.

Shaheen Akhtar, Editor of ‘Bulletin' published quarterly by ASK represented the NGO along with Kaniz Khadija Shurovi who also works for 'Bulletin'. Representatives of CODEC, journalists and a good number of law students were present in the meeting.

ASK's objective behind this interaction was to persuade the students from law background to think critically and write about the legal and social issues in 'Bulletin' in order to raise common people's awareness about their rights as well as receiving suggestions to escalate the quality of 'Bulletin.' ASK hopes to organise this type of programmes more frequently to help make a better Bangladesh through the efforts of the students.

Seminar on Muslim Law in Bangladesh at SU

A seminar on Judicial Development of 'Muslim Family Law in Bangladesh: Empowerment of Mainstreaming of Woman' arranged by the Law Department of the Stamford University Bangladesh was held at 'C' block of the University on June 28, 2008.

The Law Department has been arranging such seminars for the last two years in order to generate new knowledge and further enrich the existing ideas through researches. These Seminar have been chalked out mainly with the objectives of introducing the students with the research work of the teachers, to bring out a journal with the articles read out in the seminars and get the students participated in the discussion.

Dr Salimullah Khan, the Chief Academic Coordinator has opined that this sorts of seminar will be helpful to the researchers, in writing thesis and enrich their knowledge's in general. Mr Anisur Rahman, a lecturer of the Department presented the key note paper on the topic. Prominent law-practitioners, teachers of the Law Department and students were present and participated in the question-answer session.
