Essence of Student Life

Zannatul Lamea

YOU know how, on the last day of your internship program, you suddenly realize you are done with “Student Life” and finally are standing at the end of the tunnel? It truly is a very perplexing situation, with you finally stepping into an independent life, leaving behind the utterly carefree campus days. Although this is the destination we all dream of, when it's at hand, our life does come to a halt.

It is regarded as the platinum period of one's life, the time bracket when everyone is at his or her best maybe not in the parameters of progress or success, but in terms of spirit. Although a lot of you might blame the tedious assignments, exam load, hectic class schedule, boring lectures but at one point or other we all are bound to agree that even with all these 'loads', student life is as vibrant and colorful as ever.

The tragedy lies in the fact that these realizations strike only when it's already too late, when you are almost done with the chapters of “Studentship”, and are on the verge of drawing the line to it. And before you can actually make some latent use of the realizations, the curtains are drawn and the show is over.

Students are found to play various lead roles throughout his/her student life. I have seen many of my fellow batch mates spending their entire campus life submerged in books. Sometimes I wonder if they ever lifted up their head from the pages of textbooks and took a look at the hustle bustle of the life around. Studying of course is required, but not at the price of a colorful enjoyable student life. True talent necessarily does not come from devouring books down your throat, but by applying your learning in practical and social life.

Speaking of social life, some students are bit too social. So social that they actually decide to drop every class and socialize. It seems the objective for them for studying at an educational institution is not gaining knowledge, but to “time-pass”. And they are so adamant on their mission that no matter what comes up Exams, quizzes, term paper submission, group projects, assignments; they always manage to sneak out of each and every academic activities and “Chill.”

And then there are the Pro-active categories. They are found always on their toes with at least hundreds of activities. Totally unlike the above-mentioned categories, they are completely unaware of an academic or social prospect of campus life.

Whichever category you belong to, just give it a thought before it is too late. Forget being stereotype, master in optimum amount in each sector of campus life. Keep your studies updated, try to internalize the learning and implement. Understanding the lessons always presents you with a decent grade at the end of each semester, and I am sure we can do without at least being the black sheep of the class, if not the top scorer. Maintain a vibrant social life side by side, swap your backpacks and go off for fun times with your buddies during leisure. Also, keep yourself active in such a way that it doesn't hinder the normal flow of your routine. Take part in projects; keep your eyes open for any options that give you an upper hand experience. Whatever you do, just do not abandon every other thing else.

Feel the charm, grab the essence of the colorful student life before it becomes nothing but a significant part of your memory. Sticking to only one course of lifestyle makes life lose the ambience of variety. Because every bit ,every aspect combined draws the complete picture.
