Bangladesh Brand Forum Organises Seminar at Eastern University

Bangladesh Brand Forum arranged a seminar titled “Unleashing youth, Unleashing Bangladesh” on 28 April at Eastern University. The opening ceremony was attended by Prof. Dr. Abdur Rab, Pro-Vice Chancellor and Dean, Faculty of Business Administration, Eastern University. The speakers at the seminar were Mr. Mustaq Ahmed and Soumendra Sankar Das (Head of Marketing, Marico Bangladesh Ltd.). The speakers shared their presentations with 250 students of the university. Members of the faculty of School of Business were also present in the seminar.


Pahela Baishakh Celebrations & Freshers' Reception at PUB

THE People's University of Bangladesh (PUB) celebrated Pahela Baishakh and gave a reception to the Freshers on 18 April 2009 at its main campus on Asad Avenue, Mohammadpur. Mr Shirajul Islam Mollah, Chairman, Governing Body of the University, was present as the Chief Guest while Vice Chancellor Prof Md Aslam Bhuiyan presided over the function. Mr Shirajul Islam Mollah emphasized the need for recreational activities alongside studies, while Professor Aslam Bhuiyan called upon all the students to uphold Bengali traditions and culture. Students and Teachers both participated in the cultural programme that followed.


CHPD Organizes Seminar at IUB

THE Centre for Health, Population and Developoment (CHPD) organized a seminar entitled 'Responding to AIDS in Bangladesh: Why should we invest in a Low Prevalence Country?' at Independent University, Bangladesh on 30 April 2009 at the University's Baridhara campus. Mr. Dan Odhiambo Odallo, UNAIDS Country Coordinator, Bangladesh was the featured speaker. Professor Omar Rahman, Pro-Vice Chancellor, IUB and Executive Director of CHPD moderated the seminar. Dr. Rita Yusuf, Asst. Professor, School of Environmental Science and Management, IUB delivered the formal Vote of Thanks.

The presentation traced the historical development of AIDS, providing a global summary of the epidemic. A lively discussion followed the presentation, which was attended by IUB management and faculty members, policy makers, students and representatives from other organisations.


Primeasia University holds Pharmacy Freshers' Reception

PRIMEASIA University arranged a reception programme to welcome the freshers of the Pharmacy Department of the Summer Semester, 2009. Vice Chancellor Prof Dr. Gias Uddin Ahmad was the Chief Guest of the event. Registrar Mr. Abul Kashem Molla, heads and faculty members of different departments and about 250 students of the department of Pharmacy attended the event. The program was chaired by Prof. Sk. Feroz Uddin Ahmed. The slogan of the program was “Good Health Care for the People through Good Hospital Pharmacy”. The event came to an end with a cultural programme.

 


ICT Seminar at HSTU in Dinajpur

HAJEE Danesh Science and Technology University (HSTU) of Dinajpur hosted a daylong seminar on Information Technology (IT) to improve students' skills of the university on this field. Centre for Open and Virtual Learning (COViL) of Southeast University organized the daylong seminar at the Research and Training Institute hall of HSTU University on April 21 titled 'ICT based Higher Education'. Professor Dr. M. Afzal Hossain Vice Chancellor of Hajee Danesh Science and Technology University (HSTU) attended the seminar as Chief Guest. Professor Dr. Monzurul Islam, Advisor of Centre for Open and Virtual Learning (COViL) of Southeast University presented the keynote speech. Professor Md. Ruhul Amin, former Acting Vice Chancellor of the University presided over the seminar. The prime objective of this seminar was to gather opinion from the academicians and students and civil personnel about the national ICT roadmap and convey it to the government to achieve a sustainable national ICT policy.


Art and Craft Exhibition at International Turkish Hope School

INTERNATIONAL Turkish Hope School organised an Art and Craft Exhibition on 2 May 2009 that featured the paintings and craft works done throughout the academic year by the students from Play Group to Class-5 of both the Uttara and Gulshan branches. Students, teachers, parents and guardians attended the event that took place in the Auditorium on the fifth floor of the Main Campus. The auditorium resembled a richly furnished nineteenth century European Art Gallery with paintings covering the four sides of the wall and the decorative crafts in the middle of the hall. Nature was the dominant theme of the artworks. Recycling was encouraged to discourage wastage. Art Teacher Mrs Shamima Akhter was one the main organizers of the event.


SUST Observes DNA Day

THE Department of Genetics, Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST), Sylhet celebrated DNA Day on 26 April. This special day of molecular biology witnessed the publication of the double helical structure by Watson and Crick (1953), and commemorates the completion of the human genome project (2003). The purpose of celebrating DNA day is to inspire and educate the next generation of scientists “who will use the human genome sequence to benefit human health.” Students at SUST organized a whole day programme, which included a rally and the screening of a documentary film (The Secret of Life) on the invention of DNA double helix.


ACCA Organizes Seminar at DU

ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) Bangladesh organized a student event on 'Study Tips and Time Management Techniques' at University of Dhaka's Business Studies Faculty's Conference Hall on 28 April 2009. Mr. Mohammed Sajid Khan, Country Manager of Oman, made a presentation on the theme of the event. This event gave the students an opportunity to know about effective study tips and time management techniques, which are essential to achieve the globally recognized professional qualification provided by the organization.

 

 


BRAC University, Summer 2009 Orientation

THE Orientation session for the 27th intake of students at BRAC University was held on May 11 at the BRACU Indoor Games Room. After the fresher students were addressed by the Vice Chancellor Professor Jamilur Reza Chowdhury and Pro VC Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed, a Video Presentation was shown showing the different features of the university. Afterwards, Professor Mumit Khan of the CSE Department spoke about Shared Responsibilities while Iris Pervin, Assistant Registrar and Sabrina Shahidullah spoke about the Registrar's Office and the Career Services Office respectively. Mahdin Mahboob, from Star Campus, The Daily Star spoke as an alumnus of the university on his experiences while being a student at BRACU.


Achievement of Expatriate Bangladeshi Researcher

Bangladeshi researcher Dr. Sabir Mirza has received an award from "American Association of Pharmaceuticals” as an appreciation to his prowess in the field of research. The event was held on 17th November 2008 at Atlanta. At present Dr. Sabir Mirza is working with crystal morphology of Engineering of Pharmaceuticals solids: Tabletting Performance Enhancement and molecular level information of drug molecules. Dr. Sabir Mirza completed his PhD from University of Helsinki (Finland) in 2007. At present he is working in the same institution as a Senior Researcher. His works have already been published in various pharmaceutical journals of Europe and the United States of America.
