ICT Fair organized by Faculty of Engineering @ UODA

Md. Aynal Haque Rana

A Two day long ICT fair was organized by the faculty of engineering at University of Development Alternative (UODA) from 11-12 November. The ICT fair was jointly organized by the department of Computer science of Engineering (CSE) and Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering (ETE). The objective of the fair was to promote the ICT knowledge and expand its interest among the students and ICT personnel.

The fair was inaugurated by the Vice-Chancellor of UODA Professor Dr. Emajuddin Ahmed, Pro V.C Professor Dr. Rahmatullah, Founding President Mujib Khan, Professor Dr. Osman Gani Talukdar, Dean of faculty of Engineering, Associate Professor Sakeeb Adnan coordinator and chairman of ICT fair.

The fair were arranged in two sections - Software and Hardware. In software section six projects were demonstrated. Some of them were final year projects and some were from students' own interest. As we know how computer science can play an important role ever since the modifications of “Digital Bangladesh”, the software section was well organized and well appreciated by the visitors. Online library management system, MMS gallery, Friends secret name on face book, online medial information, Web based social interacting communicating system and Environmental detection were among those most promising software which were demonstrated during fair. Another exciting section for the visitors was the Hardware section. In the Hardware section seven projects were demonstrated by a bunch of enthusiastic young engineering students. We know how the blessings of Electrical Science can bring a huge change in our life. Projects demonstrated during fair were- PC to Device Control: to control all of the home and industrial devices from a control room using PC, mobile or other devices. By using this technology, we can save our energy. Auto switching by light: we can use this circuit at home or office, which will work at night. The circuit will turn on and in the morning it will turn off automatically. Through this we can save electricity. Measuring temperature and voltage by microcontroller: can use it at our room, office etc. to measure instant temperature and the voltage of any device. UPS act like IPS: can use in all official purposes combine 650 UPS, 50-amp Battery, changing circuit and implementation. Unshielded Twisted Pair (UTP) Cable Tester: consumes less supply current and can be used at long distance ranges, tested cable in a network without breaking the network setup. Automated toll management system: using this technique toll collection would be meaningful, profitable and free from corruption. Automated irrigation system: Measuring the height of water in agricultural lands, controlling the height of water in agricultural lands, measuring the height of water in the rivers, this automated system can be used for flood forecasting and flood management.

During the fair, quiz, programming, gaming (NFS-Most wanted) contest was also arranged- Shakil Ahmed, Choton Molla and Mesbahul Islam obtained top three places in the quiz contest, Md. Jobayer, Imran Hossain and Maroof hossain obtained the top three places in programming contest and in gaming contest Md. Mahmud, Md. Foysal and Md. Safiur were the top three winners. The Gaming Competition was sponsored by “GIGABYTE”, besides these a debate competition was also arranged at the seminar room. The topic was on “Adhunic projukti nirvor prithibi: manush hote monushotto kere nichche” the opposition team led by Md. Shakil won the debate battle. A seminar on “Future of ICT: Bangladesh scenario” organized by the department of engineering at the seminar room which was presented by the renowned expert on information and communication Prof. Dr. M.A. Mottalib, Head of department of Computer Science Information Technology at Islamic University of Technology (IUT), V.C, Pro V.C, Founder and President of UODA and the Dean of Faculty of Engineering were also present at the seminar. The seminar focused on the prospect and future of information and communication technology and its ultimate establishment in Bangladesh. It generates an excellent opportunity to share ideas and experiences among the renowned ICT experts, personnel and students home and abroad. In the fair, an arrangement of movie shows in different slots of those two days was organized. The two-day long fair ended with the prize giving ceremony on respective competitions and a rocking cultural programme by the students of the Engineering Department.
