Talents show of BUCuC

Asif Ahmed Noor

ANOTHER year is ending. BRAC University Cultural Club (BUCuC) has completed their talent hunt and now it is time for evaluation.

BUCuC organized a three-day long Annual Cultural Competition with expectation and confidence running high. More than hundred competitors competed in nine categories like various kinds of song and dances, instrumental Music and recitation. The judges, who are nationally and internationally acclaimed, said that the performances were of very high standard.

The prize giving ceremony of Annual Cultural Competition was attended by Professor Jamilur Reza Choudhury, VC of BRAC University who handed over the awards to 35 winners in all categories. The audience enjoyed a glimpse of the talents through the function which was followed by the prize giving ceremony.

But the biggest demonstration took place at the Annual Cultural Program 2009 held at the National Museum Auditorium and as always, BUCuC set a new level of performance.

In support of the movement for saving our environment, this year BUCuC has decided to '...go green'! The entire set was designed in different vibrant shades of green with banners flaring from both sides of the stage with a message to all the viewers to 'go green'. That's why the program also started by giving message about 'go green'. Not only culturally but, members of BUCuC find it their responsibility to encourage and spread the message across to people to be environment friendly.

The chief guest of the program Pro-VC of BRAC University Professor Dr. Md. Golam Samdani Fakir watched a slide-show featuring BUCuC behind the scenes and on stage that enthralled the audience. Moving on into the program Professor Md. Golam Samdani Fakir inaugurated BUCuC's online radio at www.radiobucuc.com, which is an attempt by the BUCuC-ians to create their own space on the internet. Then there was an encouraging speech from Prof. Fakir and appreciation from Dr. Zainab F. Ali, Director of Student Affairs.

The cultural show started with a beautiful mesmerizing group dance depicting the natural beauty of the hill tracts, which was followed by seventeen songs including Rabindra Sangeet, Nazrul Sangeet, folk and band songs. In between recitation and more dances there were all kinds of performances. With every passing year, BUCuC has tried to push itself further to excel in terms of performance levels and performer benchmarks. This year, contrary to the tradition of hiring professional musicians for instruments, BUCuC members played all instruments. It is a must to make a special mention of Promee, Navid, Ferdous and above all Mifta as he kept playing each instrument by turn to showcase his multi-instrumental talents along side his amazing singing.

The Annual Cultural Program 2009 was definitely a wonderful night in remembrance for all who witnessed it, as they were left mesmerized with yet another BUCuC signature event!
