Bhelki at IUB
Tahsin Hassan Bini
RECENTLY the TV drama Bhelki was given a premiere showing at the auditorium of the Independent University Bangladesh (IUB) new campus at Bashundhora. In this production IUB students and faculty members have various roles. Two IUB students, Mahbub and Shahriar Zaman Boni, both former and current Media and Communication students at IUB, have established their new production house Extreme Dreamers. Bhelki, directed by Ali Fida Ekram Tojo, is its first venture. Bappy, Labloo, Boni, Faisal all Media and Communication students, have acted in it. The department of Media and Communication head GM Shahidul Alam and junior lecturer Monami Hoque have also performed in this drama. With them some well-known and new actors in Bangladesh like Fazlur Rahman Babu, Shimul, Rifat Kaka and Prema, a ULAB student, have acted in it. The key theme of this drama is the condition of citus inversis totalis that gives rise to superstition and exploitation by unscrupulous elements. This drama shows how clever unscrupulous persons misguide naive rural people to believe that the kind of person who has this condition is possessed of extraordinary powers. The educated people are also often taken in by such charlatans. They overlook science and medical teaching. The 45 minute drama was directed by Ali Fida Ekram Tojo. This single drama is his debut by direction. Bhelki signifies how some people fake and do business in the name of kobiraji treatment.
On 14th July this drama's premiere was organized by IUB's Film and Photography club and its chief patron GM Shahdul Alam and coordinator Jessica Tartila with the assistance of its members. IUB VC Prof. Bozlul Mobin Chowdhury, Registrar Tanvir Ahmed Khan, Kazi Faruque Ahmed, Senior Manager of DOSA and a number of faculty members came to this show. Besides, many students, both from IUB and other universities, enjoyed this drama.
This drama will be aired over a local TV channel in the near future. Extreme Dreamers are planning to start work for another drama for Eid-ul Fitar. Now we are waiting to watch Bhelki on TV. On the half of IUB we would like to congratulate everyone who is associated with the production of Bhelki.
