Economics Quiz Competition 2010

ECONOMICS Quiz Competition 2010, a brainchild of Economics Study Center (ESC), was basically introduced focusing on the inner quest of economics students. All the 55 teams who were registered came up with the dream of winning the title, which will certainly be the best feather of their cap. As this Intra-department quiz competition offered everyone to shine with their sharpness of knowledge and capability, all the question papers were set enforcing on the basic Microeconomics and Macroeconomics criterion.
The journey of making the dream true, to appreciate the quest of young minds, started on 17 July, while every participant found their seats in Ahad lecture hall of Arts Building, DU. The question papers were set by the strong alumni and teachers made the way lot easier to find out the 8 finalist team who shaped their way towards “Grand Finale”.
All the enthusiastic students and teachers came under the same roof of R C Majumder Arts Auditorium on 26 July to enjoy the smartest fight; fight of thoughts. The whole evaluation process was subdivided into three parts. All the eight teams answered the MCQ presented through the Multimedia. The suspense was really great to watch.
The second part featuring the economic explanation test takes one to the world of graphs where one curve is emerging from another. But the fact was simply a new world of thoughts. Deciphering the codes of simple photos through economic approach helped to determine the entreaties of world economy. The teachers Panel, consisting of many renowned economists like Dr. Abul Barakat, Professor M M Akash, Professor Kamrunnahar Taslim, Dr. Atonu Rabbani and Dr. Rushad Faridi, were waiting to judge the contestants on the last segment of the event. The adroit answers of the participants on the identified global and local current issues made the audience bound to applaud wholeheartedly several times.
The wait for the name of the winning team made everyone's adrenaline flowing. The long waited moment came announcing Arghya Raihan and Ahmed Tanmay Tahsin Ratul as the winner of this Economics Quiz Competition 2010 who are also expected to represent Bangladesh in 7th South Asian Economics Students Meet (SAESM 2010) which will be held in Colombo, Srilanaka.
Speaking at the Prize giving ceremony, Dr. Abul Barakat, Chairman, Department of Economics, said “This effort will certainly be a milestone for the students of Economics. Wherever you go, whether it is Harvard, MIT or any other university, you better involve yourself in this kind of endeavor.” Professor M M Akash shared the history of Economics Study Center.
