BU Freshers' Orientation

Bangladesh University organised a new kind of orientation for its Fall 2010 Freshers on November 8 at its Mohammadpur Campus. In the programme Mr. M. A. Malik, Member Board of Trustees, Bangladesh University was present as chief guest. Engr. M.A. Ghulam Dastagir, Secretary, Board of Trustees, Bangladesh University was present as special guest. Prof. Dr. Golam Ali Fakir, Vice-Chancellor in-charge Bangladesh University Chaired the programme.

Prof Mustafa Kamaluddin welcomed the students and guests. Mr. M. A. Malik in his address asked the students to achieve the horizon of knowledge and to enjoy the real human life. Engr. M.A. Ghulam Dastagir highlighted different facilities available in the university. Vice-Chancellor in-charge Prof. Dr. Golam Ali Fakir finally advised the students to have personal initiative and to take advantage of all the modern scientific facilities offered by Bangladesh University. Head, Dept. of CSE Mr. Sadiq Iqbal, Head and Dept. of Business Administration Prof. Dr. Rowsan Kamal spoke on the occasion among others.

The faculty members and the students were present in the programme. The BU Controller in-charge Md. Abu Hanif Kahn, Assistant Registrar Mr. Shohel Ahsan Nipu and Mr. Alauddin Ahmed were also in attendance.


Int'l Seminar on "Research structure-methodology" held at RU

An international seminar title on “Research structure and methodology” was held at the Department of Zoology of Rajshahi University (RU) arranged by the Department for International Development and British Council financed DELPHI R-4 project on November 7. The speakers stressed on the proper methods and structure of the research so that all the research works get international status. The researchers of the public universities of Bangladesh should follow the rules and be careful regarding the research methodology and structure.

A researcher of Bangor University and Royal Botanical Garden of United Kingdom named Shofi William presented two keynote papers in the seminar on “Hypothesis Testing and Experimental Design” and “Field Methods for survey and Ethic in Conversation Research”. In the seminar Professor Zahidul Hasan, Dean of Life & Earth Science. Faculty and the Chairman of the Zoology Department Professor Saodagor Mahfujur Rahman and the coordinator of the project Professor Bidhan Chandra Das were present at the seminar.


IUB Culture

On November 2 at Independent University Bangladesh was at a musical frenzy. A daylong cultural programme organised by the students from Department of Media and Communication kept the entire campus excited and entertained round the day. On the occasion of the university shifting to its new campus soon as well as celebrating the positive vibe and many achievements of the Media and Communication majors and minors, the cultural show incorporated a play (by IUB Theatre), band performances (by students from Department of Engineering) and several songs and dance numbers. Dr. G M Shahidul Alam, Head of Dept. of Media and Communication were present there as well.


A special day of RU Rahmatunnesa female Hall

The prize distribution programme of annual cultural and indoor games competition of the Rahmatunnesa hall (A female hall) of Rajshahi University was held on November 6. The Vice Chancellor Professor M Abdus Sobhan distributed the prizes among the winners addressing as chief guest while the Pro Vice Chancellor Professor Mohammad Nurullah was present as special guest. The provost of Rahmatunnesa hall Professor Subhra Rani Chanda presided over the programme. The residential students of the respective hall actively participated in the programme.


Seminar on Climate Change & Food Security

Mymensingh State Minister Yeafesh Osman adressed the seminar as chief guest.

State Minister for Science, Information and Communication Yeafesh Osman on November 7 said that through development of environment friendly technologies, the prevailing crisis in agriculture sector due to climate change can be minimized. The seminar was organised by BAU Ph.D Students Association

As climate change is now a burning issue throughout the world, so the development of information technology is a must to save ourselves from the wrath of nature and natural calamities, said the minister while inaugurating a day long seminar titled 'Climate Change & Food Security' at Shaheed Syed Nazrul Islam Conference Hall of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) as chief guest.

The maximum use of climate in proper way can gear up our agricultural production needed to gain food security for the huge number of population, said the minister. As Bangladesh is depended on agriculture, so there is no alternative for us to face the climate change situation with modern technologies, the minister concluded.

The inaugural session was also addressed among others by Professor Dr. M. Amanuallah, MP, Principal Motiur Rahman, MP as special guests. BAU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. M. A. Sattar Mandal was the chief patron while Professor Dr. M. Golam Shahi Alam, Coordinator, Committee for Advanced Studies & Research at BAU presided.

Professor Dr. Abdur Rahman Sarker presented a keynote paper regarding the seminar. President of Ph.D Students Association Abul Khair delivered the welcome speech.

Later the minister formally inaugurated the website of Ph.D Students Association.
