Save the Children, UK, recently hosted a photo exhibition, courtesy of their EVERY ONE Campaign on December 28 and 29, 2010 at the Russian Culture Centre, Dhanmondi. At the exhibition, three of the best pictures, that told the most moving stories, were awarded first, second and third prizes.

Save the Children is an independent organisation creating real and lasting change for children in Bangladesh and around the world. Four Save the Children agencies are operational in Bangladesh: Save the Children Australia, Save the Children Sweden/Denmark, Save the Children UK and Save the Children USA, sharing resources and expertise to maximize impact for children. The global EVERY ONE campaign is a collaborative effort among all Save the Children Agencies.

Bangladesh is on-track to meet MDG 4 and has made progress by, increasing immunisation coverage, including neonatal tetanus protection; providing vitamin A supplements, de-worming and oral rehydration therapy; and through support for family planning. It is a unique example of a government and NGO collaboration.

At the exhibition, images displayed were selected from a wide range of pictures that had been submitted by participants in the “Click and Caption Contest”. The first ever “Click and Caption Contest” was held between December 3 and 18, where people submitted captioned photographs, which told stories of hope and change, thus making the world a better place to live in, especially for children.

Tania Shukrana, M Imran Hassan, Adnan Arsalan; Noted photographers: Shafiqul Alam Kiron, Shehab Uddin Ahmed and the Country Director Sumon Sen Gupta.

A panel of noted photographers, Shafiqul Alam Kiron, Abir Abdullah and Shehab Uddin Ahmed went through the pictures and selected the winners. The first prize winner was Tania Shukrana from Dhaka who got an award of 50,000 takas. The second prize winner M Imran Hassan received a cash prize of 30,000 takas and the third prize winner was Adnan Arsalan of Dhaka, who won a cash prize of 20,000 takas.

Every year nearly nine million children die due to diseases that are easily preventable. EVERY ONE is Save the Children's global campaign to save millions of children's lives. If one believes in the value of every child, the power of collective action and determination to succeed, then this exhibition is for them where they can be inspired and moved by the power of imagination that has been captured in a single click and captioned to tell a story. This photo contest will be a first of many more to follow.
