Seminar on Arsenic poising in Urine held at RU

A daylong seminar title on 'Urine Analysis in Arsenic Toxicity' was held at seminar room of the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology of Rajshahi University (RU) on January 11, 2011.

Sushinary Markiri, a Researcher of Doctorate of Philosophy (PhD) under the Borney University of Japan was addressed as chief guest while Professor Shahidul Haque, Chairman and Professor of the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology of Rajshahi University, were present as special guests.

Sushinari Markiri also presented the key note paper at the seminar while an Assistant Professor of the Department of RU presided over the programme.

The speakers urged the people of the country to be conscious about the arsenic poising in urine and to create awareness regarding the matter. The students and teachers of different departments participated in the seminar.


DU Celebrates ten years of Department of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology

The Department of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (GEB), University of Dhaka is going to celebrate its glorious and eventful ten years of achievements. The celebration programme is scheduled to be held on January 29-30, 2011. Begum Motia Chowdhury, Minister, Ministry of Agriculture, Govt. of the People's Republic of Bangladesh will be present as the chief guest. Yafesh Osman, State Minister, Ministry of Science, Information and Communication Technology, Professor Dr. A A M S Arefin Siddique, Vice Chancellor, University of Dhaka and Professor Dr. Harun-Or-Rashid, Pro-Vice Chancellor, University of Dhaka will be present as special guests.

The venue of this two day long programme will include Senate Bhaban, TSC auditorium and the GEB Department itself. The programme will give emphasis on spreading life science through scientific sessions, student outreach programme and biotechnology fair. There will be two scientific sessions titled 'Jute Genome Sequence: Achievements and Future Prospects' and 'Medical and Industrial Biotechnology: Bangladesh Perspectives' on the first day of the programme. A student outreach programme titled 'Biotechnology for Better Life' will take place on the second day of the programme where students from more than twenty five colleges will participate along with the student representatives from different universities all over the country. The students will make project presentations and take part in a quiz competition on biological science.
