Workshop in Begum Rokeya University

Begum Rokeya University the first public University in Rangpur Division arranged a workshop on March 31 to put forward child rights as an academic discourse for their students to study.
Child rights as a discourse, is important for the students of all subjects to know so that they can establish them in their practical, social and family life after leaving the university. The title of the workshop was "Child Rights is an Academic Discourse in Higher Academia".
Vice chancellor of Begum Rokeya University, Professor Dr. M.A. Abdul Jalil Miah was the chief guest, while the treasurer of the university, Professor Mozammel Haque and Deputy Director of Save the Children- Sweden- Denmark Choudhury Md. Tayub Tajamul were present as chief guests in the workshop organised by faculty of Social Science.
Apart from the chief and special guests, the head of the department of Political Science,Jani Parvin, Deputy Director of Save the Children (Sweden-Denmark) Chowdhury Md Tayub Tajamul spoke at the inaugural session.
The participants elaborately discussed the various aspects of child rights, why child rights need to be established in the context of Bangladesh and what roles individuals, society and a state can play to establish them.
Social Welfare Club of University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh organizes photo Exhibition
Social Welfare Club of University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) organized a five day long photo exhibition. The exhibition showcased photographs of renowned photographer Noor Ali. Focusing on creating awareness on Thalassemia, a blood disorder, the exhibition was inaugurated by Nasir Ali Mamun, renowned portrait photographer and Professor Imran Rahman, Pro Vice-Chancellor, ULAB on April 3, 2011. The exhibition remained open from April 3-7, 2011.
The book titled 'Ballads of the Agonized Souls' was sold during the exhibition, the proceeds from the sales of which will go towards the welfare of Thalassemia patients.
On this occasion a seminar was arranged on World Health day on Thursday, April 7, 2011 at ULAB Auditorium. Dr. Wakar A. Khan, Chairman, Department of Thalassemia, Bangladesh Shishu Hospital, Mr. Mustafizur Rahman, Advisor Bangladesh Thalassemia Hospital and Kamrun Nahar Mukula, Thalassemia counselor were the guest of honor at the event. During the event, free blood grouping and blood screening (electrophoresis, to detect thalassemia carrier) were carried out on ULAB premises.
English Skills Development Programme

Dhaka University Management Club (DUMC) has taken an initiative for English Skill Development Programme (ESDP), which is designed for the DUMC general members. The Executive Committee (EC) Soykot Chowdhury Uchchhas, President, Ashiquzzaman, General Secretary, Murtaza Al Asrafi, Treasurer, Munia Rahman Badhon, Organizing Secretary, Debashish Mondal, Organizing Secretary, Umme Aisha Masjuda, Public Relations Secretary, Mohammad Al-Amin, Public Relations Secretary, Md.Nazrul Islam Nayan, Publication Secretary, and Ashraf Md. Abdullah, ICT Secretary. The committee organised a competition called- “Biz Know”, an Intra Management Studies Business Aptitude Championship succesfully. EC now dreams to position the club into the national skill enhancing brand for global positioning development.
National Debate Championship

Jahangirnagar University Debate Organisation in association with the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs organised the Debate Festival in observance of Independence Day. Daffodil International University Debating Club (DIUDC) was the champion at the grand final of the National Debate Championship 2011. Before that they defeated Jahangirnagar University Debate Organisation in the semi-final. DIUDC faced Dhaka University Debating Society in the grand final held at the Selim Al Deen Muktomoncho of Jahangirnagor University on March 27, 2011.
University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Professor Nazrul Islam addressed the concluding session of the festival as the chief guest and handed over the champion trophy, while JU Vice Chancellor professor Dr. Shariff Enamul Kabir and adviser of the organisation Professor Abul Khayer spoke as special guests.
Around 100 educational institutions including universities, colleges and schools from all over the country participated in the festival.
The Champion Team Members of DIU Debating Club were Jayanta Bhowmik from the department of electronics & telecommunication engineering, Amlan Kishor Moon- Dept. of BBA and Jayanta karmokar Dept. of JMC.
Role of Lawyers for the Protection of Human Rights

Department of Law and Justice of Southeast University organised a seminar on “Role of Lawyers for the Protection of Human Rights” on 5 April, 2011 at seminar hall of Southeast University.
Professor Dr. Mizanur Rahman, Chairman, National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Bangladesh was present at the occasion as chief guest. Prof. Dr. ANM Meshquat Uddin, Vice Chancellor (acting) of Southeast University was the Chairperson in the seminar and Dr. Uttam Kumar Das, Deputy Director, South Asian Institute of Advanced Legal and Human Rights Studies (SAILS) delivered the keynote speech at the seminar. Abdul Baten Mian, Dean (acting), SASS and Md. Asaduzzaman, Chairman, Department of Law and Justice also spoke at the seminar.
Referring to the spirit of the Liberation War, Professor Rahman said "The nation is committed to ensuring equality, social justice and dignity for all. It is the responsibity of the government to implement those commitments and we need to combine our efforts in this regard." Dr. Uttam Kumar Das called for comprehensive reform of legal education and a national policy.
