National English Debate Championship 2011

This year Drishty has successfully orchestrated its 11th inter- school and 5th inter- varsity debate championship entitled BSRM- The Daily Star- Drishty National English Debate Championship 2011.

The competition started with a workshop on March 29, 2011 where all the participating debaters of schools and universities were trained about the rules and regulations of the tournament. School debate WSDC format while University debate followed the WUDC format.

The schools that accepted the challenge of logic were William Carey Academy, Cider International School, Mastermind International School, Cantonment English School, Sunshine Grammar School, Chittagong Sunshine English School, Radiant School, Bangladesh Elementary School, Child Heaven School, Agrabad Girls School, Chittgong Collegiate School and Global Scholar School. On the other hand, the university teams were Dhaka University debating society (DUDS), North South University (NSU), Independent University of Bangladesh (IUB), Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), Islamic University of Technology (IUT), Chittagong University (CU) and several other universities.

On April 4, the grand finale was held at the TIC auditorium. Each of the finalist teams tried wholeheartedly to prove they were eligible to conquer the national title from the port city. North South University and Bangladesh Elementary School became, the champs in varsity and school level while Islamic University of Technology and Chittagong Collegiate School were the runners-up.

At the closing ceremony, BSRM Chairman and Managing Director Alihussain Akbarali, Prothom Alo Resident Editor Abul Momen, The Daily Star Bureau Chief AKM Raisul Huq Bahar, Dristy Debate Club Chairman Safia Gazi Rahman, and Dristy Chittagong President Masud Bokul handed over the awards to the debaters.

Notably, the chief adjudicator of the contest was Adnan Mannan, Best Debater, National TV debate 2005/Best Debater Debater, Manchester Open Debate Tournament 2009/ Ambassador, LINMUN (London International Model United Nations 2009)/Secretary, Hull Univesity Debating Society. UK. and Deputy Chief adjudicator was Sinha Ibn Humayun, breaking debater of World Universities Debate Championship. Tanvyr Hafyz, publication secretary of Bangladesh Debate Council was the Deputy Chief Adjudication and Tab director of the tourney. Besides, Wahidul Bari, WUDC debater of NSU, Jewel Chowdhury and Badruddoza Jewel, debater, CU and many other famous national debaters performed the role of adjudicators at the competition.
