Welcoming the Bangla New Year 1418

This year Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) welcomed Bangla New Year, Pahela Baisakh through elaborate programmes which included a colorful rally, staging of cultural function and boisakhi fair in an inspiring presence of the Vice Chancellor (in charge) Prof M Omar Rahman, and other members of the faculty and management.

The students brought out a colourful Boishakhi rally early in the morning on April 14, 2011. The Division of Students Activities and IUB Art Club jointly organised a cultural function and Boishakhi Mela where all kinds of traditional item were sold. In addition, songs, dances, recitations representing the coming of the Bangla year were performed which enthralled the audience.

The cultural programme began with a chorus which followed solo songs. Additionally, the students setup stalls on the campus premises. These stalls were mainly food stalls selling a variety of traditional Bangladeshi food items. The students were dressed in colourful saris and moved around the campus throughout the day. Kazi Faruque Ahmed, Senior Manager, Student Activities coordinated the daylong programme.
