NSUEC organises Pursuit of Poetry

The North South University English Club (NSUEC) organised a poetry writing competition, 'Pursuit of Poetry', on June 23, 2011, which was held in the Recreation Centre on campus. The event was organised in order to give a platform to the students of North South University who are interested in writing poetry. The judges for this event were Dr Selim Sarwar, Dr Deena P Forkan, and Abdus Selim of the Department of English, North South University. There were 48 students who participated in the competition, out of which only three students were selected as the winner, runner-up, and second runner-up winning prize money worth Tk 10,000, Tk 5,000 and Tk 2,500 respectively.
The NSU-based band Overtone performed and made the crowd sway to their tunes. In addition, the bands Blank Pages and Orfred, also performed which made the audience clap and sing along cheerfully. Last, but not the least, members of North South University Shangshkritik Shangathan (NSUSS) mesmerised the crowd with their wonderful performance.
Next, it was the moment of truth for the participants as the judges announced the long-awaited results. Sarah Soha, from the Department of Environmental Science and Management (DESM), was announced as the second runner-up; Ahsan Sajid, from the Department of English, was announced as the first runner-up; and Rifat Islam Esha, also from the Department of English, was announced as the winner. All the other participants of the competition were also given certificates of participation by the Faculty Advisor of English Club, Farzana Mohsin.
