Workshop on RTI organised by IER YES

Aworkshop on RTI (Right to Information) was recently organised by the Institute of Education and Research (IER), University of Dhaka YES Group (Youth Engagement and Support Group), logistically supported by Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB). At the programme was present IER YES advisor, Khairul Islam, Lecturer, IER and team leader Tareque Mehdi, a 3rd year student of IER. The facilitators were TIB officials Sajjad Hussein and K Shohel Rana.

Selected 50 YES members, friends and general students of IER attended the workshop. The workshop focused on the background, importance and issues relevant to the Right to Information Act, 2009. Sajjad Hussein discussed the present status of this act and encouraged the participants to write for information in order to establish the right to information. Participants were also trained for the procedures and formats to file an RTI application, as well as filing an appeal to the higher authorities and the Information Commission.

The workshop reached the closing with an ambition to transform it into accomplishment by proper and effective implementation of Right to Information Act, 2009 because knowing the right thing at the right time can open up doors to make everyone accountable and responsible towards society and country.
