Bangladeshi Student Scholars

Three students from Bangladesh were awarded scholarships by Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus in Malaysia, recently. The scholarships worth more than RM420,000 (about US$140,000), were presented to the recipients by Professor Helmut Lueckenhausen, the Pro Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive of the university, at a ceremony on campus.

The students from Bangladesh were Zabiullah Fahmid, from Dhaka College, Md Khairul Ahmed, from BAF Shaheen College, Tejgaon, and Nahian Alam Sadman, from Rajuk Uttara Model School and College, Dhaka. The three were awarded scholarships for achieving outstanding HSC results.


Tree Plantation at JKKNIU

The annual tree plantation programme of Jatiyo Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University (JKKNIU) in Trishal was inaugurated on August 25.

Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Dr Syed Giasuddin Ahmed inaugurated the programme planting a 'Neem' tree before the university administrative building.

Treasurer of the university, Professor Dr Md Abul Bashar, Dean of Business Administration Faculty, Professor Dr Subrata Kumar Dey, Dean of Social Science Faculty Dr Habibur Rahman also planted trees marking the opening ceremony of the programme.


Talks on Bangabandhu at IUB

The Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) organised a discussion programme to mark the 36th death anniversary of the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on August 23, 2011 at its Dhaka Campus. Professor Mustafa Nurul Islam graced the event as chief guest and keynote speaker. In his speech, Professor Islam talked about the history of Bangladesh and spoke on Bangabandhu's 7th March speech to the young students.

Professor M Omar Rahman, Vice Chancellor (In Charge) of IUB and Dr Akimun Rahman, Associate Professor and fiction writer also spoke on the occasion.

 


Education Secretary Awards Scholarships at ULAB

Department of Architecture of Southeast University organised a Seminar on “Culture, Sustainability and the Built Environment” on August 13, 2011 in the Seminar Hall of South East University. Dr Tasleem Shakur, Editor, Global Built Environment Review and Senior Lecturer, Edge Hill University, Lancashire, United Kingdom was the Speaker. Professor Dr ANM Meshquat Uddin, Vice Chancellor (acting) of Southeast University presided over the seminar. Lt Col (Retd) Md Ali Ambial Haque Khan, Registrar of Southeast University, Professor Dr R I Sharif, Dean, School of Science and Engineering, Professor Meer Mobashsher Ali, Chairman, Department of Architecture attended the seminar.

Students of the department, teachers and officers of Southeast University attended the seminar as well.


East West University observes National Mourning Day

East West University observed the National Mourning Day to pay homage to the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman with due solemnity and honour on August 15, 2011.

The day started with hoisting up the half-mast national flag and black flag by Dr Mohammed Farashuddin, President, Board of Trustees of East West University. As part of a day-long programme, a Khatmul Quran was also organised. A discussion meeting followed by a milad mahfil was organised at the university auditorium.


Seminar at MBSTU

The Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University (MBSTU) organised a seminar on the Liberation war of Bangladesh on July 30, 2011. The aim was to introduce the real history behind the independence of the country. The programme was organised by the central administration of MBSTU.

Vice Chancellor (VC) Professor Dr M Nurul Islam was the chief guest while Planning Minister Air Vice Martial (Retd) AK Khandakar was the special guest at the programme. Pro-VC Professor Dr Md Moniruzzaman and Proctor Md Omar Faruk also gave their valuable speech at the seminar.

An Independent War Sculpture was inaugurated by the planning Minister in the Drobo Chattar in MBSTU campus as part of the programme. Freedom fighters from Tangail district were also invited to the programme.
