Daffodil University introduces BSc Programme in Multimedia Technology and Creative Arts

Daffodil International University launched BSc programme in Multimedia Technology and Creative Arts on September 24, 2011 at DIU Auditorium. Abul Kalam Azad, MP, Minister, Ministry of Information and Cultural Affairs launched the programme as chief guest.

Mustafa Jabbar, President, Bangladesh Computer Samity presented the keynote paper on “Career in Multimedia Technology and Creative Arts” at the ceremony. Md Sabur Khan, Chairman, Board of Trustees, Daffodil International University presided over the programme. The function was addressed by Professor Dr M Lutfar Rahman, Vice-Chancellor, Daffodil International University, Professor Dr S M Mahabub -Ul- Hoque Majumder, Dean, Faculty of Science and Information Technolog and Professor Dr Syed Akter Hossain, Head, Computer Science and Engineering.

Vice Chancellor Professor Dr M Lutfar Rahman in his welcome address said, Daffodil International University is always committed to providing and ensuring quality education.


Professor AZM Anisur Rahman joins Southeast University

Professor AZM Anisur Rahman, former professor of Accounting and Information Systems of the University of Dhaka, joined Southeast University on September 15, 2011 as Dean, School of Business Studies. Previously, he taught in a number of renowned universities in Australia. Apart from teaching, Professor Anis held many important administrative posts at the University of Dhaka. During his long teaching career, he published many research articles and study manuals. His book “Principles of Accounting” published by Bangladesh Open University is a popular text book, among others.


Observing World Peace Day

Like the other parts of the world,Bangladesh also observed the World Peace Day with different programmes around the country. As part of the celebration of the day, Department of International Relations, University of Chittagong along with South Asia Youth for Peace and Prosperity Society (SAYPPS) organised a peace rally.

After the rally, the Dean of Faculty of Social Sciences, Professor Dr Joyti Prokash Datta and the Chairman Faridul Alam, Department of International Relations, University of Chittagong delivered their speech to promote co-operation, development and peace among the South Asian countries.

A total of about 90 participants including teachers, students, journalists and people from different sectors participated in the peace rally.


IUB Celebrates Tagore's 150th Birth Anniversary

As a part of the celebration of the 150th Birth Anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore, the Bangla Club of Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) organised a recitation and cultural programme at the university's permanent campus on September 21, 2011.

The programme started with the national anthem. The Vice Chancellor (in charge) of IUB, Professor M Omar Rahman and co-coordinator of Bangla Club, Dr Akimun Rahman spoke on the occasion.

The students performed several songs and recited poems of various themes such as love, nature and patriotism. A good number of students and members of the faculty and management attended the programme.


Japanese Students Visit AUST

Around 25 Japanese students paid a visit to Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology (AUST) on September 10, 2011. It was an interactive collaboration between Japanese college students and Bangladeshi students with spontaneous motivation in Bangladesh. The aim of the programme was to feature “warazori” as a product of Japanese traditional technology.

A group of AUST students received them cordially and showed their presentation about AUST life and Bangladeshi heritage and culture.

Professor Ken-Ichiro Miyama assisted the students. The foreign students met the Vice Chancellor of AUST Professor A M M Shafiullah.


Solar Power at IUBAT

IUBAT International University of Business Agriculture and Technology (IUBAT) installed solar backup power connection to facilitate uninterrupted electricity supply at its permanent campus for ensuring sustainable academic environment round the clock.

Professor Dr M Alimullah Miyan, Vice Chancellor of IUBAT inaugurated the electric sub-station with automatic backup generator adjacent to campus.

Speaking briefly on the occasion Professor Miyan viewed the implementation work of physical structural plan crafted by famous British Architect.

Engineer Mofizur Rahman, Head of Construction Management coordinated the programme and detailed the operational system of the comprehensive electric management embedded in the campus ensuring smooth academic functioning in classes, labs, library and other areas.


Training on MARC 21 at BRAC University

A four-day long training programme on Machine Readable Cataloging (MARC 21) was organised by BRAC University at Ayesha Abed Library from September 11-14, 2011. The training was specially designed for library professionals and IT staff of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET).

The training programme was conducted by Hasina Afroz, Librarian, BRAC University. Participants received hands on training on the creation and maintenance of bibliographic record, copy cataloguing, etc.

In the closing session, Professor Ainun Nishat, Vice Chancellor, BRAC University distributed certificates among participants. Dr Md Golam Samdani Fakir, Pro-Vice Chancellor and Ishfaq Ilahi Choudhury, Registrar of BRAC University were also present at the closing session.
