Environmental Valuation in South Asia:
Book Launching at UIU Auditorium

A book release event was organised at the United International University (UIU) Auditorium in Dhaka on September 27, 2011. Titled “Environmental Valuation in South Asia”, the book focuses on understanding the value of environmental services and contains the theoretical premise of environmental economics and fifteen research articles. The book, published by the Cambridge University Press, has been edited by Dr A K Enamul Haque (UIU, Bangladesh), Dr M N Murty (IEG, India) and Dr Priya Shyamsundar (SANDEE, Nepal).

The book is targeted for those pursuing their higher studies or PhD in Economics, especially in the field of Environmental Economics. Researchers from Bangladesh, Nepal, India, Pakistan, Philippines, USA and Thailand have contributed to the book. From Bangladesh, research works of Dr A K Enamul Haque, M Jahangir Alam and M Zakir Hossain have been included. Dr Asaduzzaman of the Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies (BIDS) and Professor Amirul Islam Chowdhury, Head of the Economics Department at United International University discussed the book at length at the launch event.

Noted academic personalities, Hafiz G A Siddiqi, VC of North South University (NSU), Ainun Nishat, VC of BRAC University, Md Saleh Uddin, VC of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST), Mohammed Farashuddin, Founder VC of East West University (EWU), M Rezwan Khan, VC of UIU and Wahiduddin Mahmud, Professor of Economics at Dhaka University (DU) and Chairman of Economic Research Group (ERG) were the guests of honour at the event.
