E-Library at East Delta University

East Delta University (EDU), the first private university in Chittagong, recently, launched e-Library on September 29, 2011. The inauguration ceremony was presided over by Professor M Sekandar Khan, Vice Chancellor of EDU and renowned Economist. Sayeed Al Noman, Vice Chairman, Board of Governors (BoG), EDU, was the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony. Sayeed Al Noman assured that the BoG of EDU will provide all the necessary supports to the teachers, students, and the employees of EDU to turn EDU into a centre of excellence in higher education in the region. The programme was conducted by the Registrar (In-Charge) and Associate Professor A Qaiyum Chowdhury. In his address of welcome, Associate Professor Dr Mir M Nurul Absar Nahid mentioned that from now onwards the EDU teachers and students will have access to the world's leading databases such as EBSCO, Wiley-Blackwell, Springer, and thousands of other journals, books, and e-resources.


Unilever BizMaestros 2011

“Experience the Thrill of Real Business”with this theme Unilever Bangladesh Limited (UBL) arranged a three week long competition titled “Unilever BizMaestros 2011” on September 13, 2011. It offered students an opportunity to compete with different universities and win a Unilever accreditation. The participating universities were Jahangirnagar University, Independent University, Bangladesh, BRAC University, Khulna University, Dhaka University, East West University, North South University, IBA of Dhaka University and BUET. UBL organised sessions with students on their campuses to give them an overview of the competition. All graduating students were invited to form groups of five and solve a live case on the Unilever Brand- Vim Liquid. In total, ten teams were chosen for the final round. The final round was held on October 2, at the La Vita Hall of Hotel Lake Shore. The team from Institute of Business Administration (IBA) was the champion of BizMaestro 2011, while the 1st and 2nd runners-up of the competition were the teams from Dhaka University and North South University.


Award Winning US Journalist speaks at IUB

Emmy Award winning American investigative Journalist, Amy Herdy who was nominated for Pulitzer Prize in 2004, delivered a lecture on “Trauma Reporting and Investigative Reporting” on September 27, 2011 at Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) permanent campus at Bashundhara. Vice Chancellor (In-Charge) of IUB, Professor M Omar Rahman graced the occasion as the chief guest.

Students, faculty members and staff of the University appreciated her excellent interactive discourse. She discussed fundamentals of trauma and investigative reporting. She also shared two video clips on the topics with the audience.

Professor Nazrul Islam, Dean, School of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences (SLASS) and Dr G M Shahidul Islam, Head, Department of Media and Communication were present, among others, on the occasion.


Foundation Day of ULAB Celebrated

University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) celebrated the 7th anniversary of its Foundation Day on October 1, 2011 at its auditorium. The chief guest for the ceremony was National Professor Dr Mustafa Nurul Islam, former Professor of Jahangirnagar University and former Director General of Bangla Academy. The programme started with the Tagore song 'mora shotter pore mon aji koribo shomorpon'; which is the theme song of ULAB, rendered by the students of ULAB Sangskriti Sangsad (Cultural Club). ULAB Professor Emeritus Dr Rafiqul Islam addressed the audience with his welcome speech. Keynote Lecture on "Quality of Higher Education in Bangladesh in the Context of the 21st Century" was delivered by Dr Mustafa Nurul Islam where he highlighted the positives and negatives of the changing patterns in the education system. Kazi Shahid Ahmed, President, Board of Trustees, ULAB and Ameenah Ahmed, Member, Board of Trustees, ULAB were also present at the ceremony. A vote of thanks was given by acting Vice Chancellor of ULAB Professor Imran Rahman at the end of the programme.


Third Batch Orientation

The orientation programme of the third batch of the United College of Aviation, Science and Management was organised, recently.The acting principal of the institution Abdur Rauf presided over the ceremony while Mohammad Ali, Executive Director and Md Abdul Barek, Finance Secretary were present as the chief guest and special guest respectively. United College of Aviation, Science and Technology is moving ahead with the vision to build up a tech-savvy nation by providing quality education at its own campus, aided by Omar Sultan Foundation. Ananda Mandal, Head of the Department said, “One has to complete a bachelors degree to build up a career in this sector. After that he has to take an international training of one year (700 hours) on Aircraft Management. The college provides the students with Bachelors, Masters, Diploma and short-hand courses in this regard”. Faculty Dean, Dr Abdullah Al Siddiqui, Mamunur Rashid, Dr Samarendra Karmakar, S M Awlad Hossian and Head of the Department Ananda Mandal were also present at the ceremony.


Workshop on "Managing Careers"

A workshop on "Managing Careers" was held for BBA students on October 27, 2011 by M H School of Business of Presidency University.

Professor Dr Anwar Hossain, Vice Chancellor (In Charge) was the chief guest and presented the keynote paper at Aman conference room.

The programme was presided over by Professor Dr Muhammad Mahboob Ali, Head, M H School of Business.

The programme was attended by Y A M Rafiqul Haq, Assistant Professor and BBA programme coordinator, Dr Tarun Tapan Dhar, Assistant Professor and MBA Programme Coordinator, Ama Banu, Assitant Professor, Kaniz Marium Akter, Lecturer, S M Abdus Shakur, Lecturer, Rehana Parvin, Lecturer, Hasina Marium, Lecturer and Alamgir Hossain, Lecturer.
