Debate Competition

Faculty of Law, ASA University Bangladesh recently organised a Debate competition on 'Lack of awareness is the main cause of road accidents.' Dean, Faculty of Law, Professor Dr ABM Mahbubul Islam, presided over the programme, while Professor Md Muinuddin Khan, Vice Chancellor of ASAUB attended the programme as chief guest.

The participants attended the competition as government and opposition parties. The opposition party won the debate competition. Member of the opposition, Md Akhlas Uddin was selected as best debater, based on his performance.

Besides the invited guests, teachers and students of the Department of Law were also present at the competition.


Tech Fiesta

Tech Fiesta, a three day long event took place from October 17-19, 2011 at North South University. The event was organised by the Wireless Forum. The Tech Fiesta 2011 comprised of the following events: plenary session one: technology transfer and plenary session two: open source applications in WIFI, WIMAX and GSM, along with a Technological Exhibition. A Job Fair was also organised, where various companies were present with their products and services. Several other exciting activities were held during the three- day event.


Voluntary Blood Donation

A day long voluntary blood donation camp was held in Bangladesh University (BU) on October 29, 2011. Department of Business Administration, BU and Bangladesh Red Crescent Society jointly organised the camp. At the inauguration session, Secretary, Board of Trustees Engineer, M A Ghulam Dastagir, Vice Chancellor in charge, BU Professor Dr Md Golam Ali Fakir, Registrar Lt. Col. (Rtd) Md Abul Kashem, Head, Department of English Professor Mustafa Kamaluddin, Students Welfare Adviser Sadiq Iqbal were present. A total of 50 bags of blood were collected at the camp. Every donor was given free test reports of four diseases, namely HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C and Syphilis.


Asian Development Bank takes Initiatives

Asian Development Bank (ADB) is interested to work with Bangladesh for improving the teaching quality in Secondary and Higher Education levels, especially in the areas of Science, Mathematics, English and ICT.

This was disclosed when a five member ADB delegation called on the University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh Chairman (State Minister) Professor Dr A K Azad Chowdhury.

The UGC Chairman told the delegation that Secondary Education is important for development of a country but real progress of a country is dependent on the Tertiary Education. The teachers in Secondary level education need to be trained and taken care of so that they can produce Secondary level students who are qualified for Higher education.

The members of delegation are, Brajesh P Panth, Principal Social Sector Specialist, Human and Social Development Division, South Asia Department, ADB, Rudi Van Dael, Social Sector Specialist, Human and Social Development Division, South Asia Department, ADB, Hitendra Pillay, Professor, School of Learning and Professional Studies Faculty of Education, Queensland University of Technology, Shima Rat Lohani, Consultant, ADB and Dr Md Gholam Rasal Miah, Consultant, ADB.


Orientation and Reception Ceremony at AUST

Orientation and Reception ceremony for the fresher of Fall Semester 2011 was held on October 20, 2011 at Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology (AUST). The chief guest at the programme was Professor Dr A K Azad Chowdhury, Chairman (State Minister), University Grants Commission while the special guest was Professor Dr M H Khan, Advisor of Ahsanullah University. The function was presided over by Professor Dr A M M Safiullah, Vice-Chancellor, Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology. The programme was attended by both parents and students.


BAU Syndicate Meeting

The 297th Syndicate meeting of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) was held at the BAU recently. BAU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Rafiqul Hoque was the chair.

Syndicate members Professor Jalal Uddin Ahmed, Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary; Professor Dr Md Abdul Khaliq Patwary, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture; Alhaj Principal Matior Rahman, MP, Krishibid Shawkat Momen Shahjahan, MP, also Chairman of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Ministry of Agriculture, Abdul Mannan, MP, former Director General of Bangladesh Fisheries Research Institute (BFRI) Dr Md Golam Hossain, Principal of the Government Teacher's Training Collage (Female) Royka Akter Khanom and BAU Registrar Md Nazibur Rahman were present at the meeting.

Members present at the syndicate meeting took various decisions on education, research and administrative matters relating to the university.


Merit Scholarship Awarding Ceremony

The Merit Scholarship Awarding Ceremony of East West University (EWU) was held on October 30, at the university auditorium. At the ceremony, 59 students from graduate and undergraduate programmes received full and half tuition merit scholarships.

Professor Ahmed Shafee, Vice Chancellor of East West University was present as chief guest on this occasion, while Dr Mohammed Farashuddin, President, Board of Trustees of EWU chaired the session.

Dr Saidur Rahman Lasker, member, Board of Trustees of EWU, Professor Dr Muniruddin Ahmed, Pro-Vice Chancellor and Colonel Shah Murtoza Ali (Retd), Registrar of the University also spoke on this occasion, congratulating the students for their achievements. Sabrina Farin, an awardee from the Department of Business Administration also delivered a speech describing her experience in the university.


Fall festival observed at University of South Asia

With a view to enhance and strengthen educational activities, University of South Asia organised a fall festival at their premises recently. The festival was observed with different programmes including admission fair, career counseling, orientation of freshmen and rag day of the final year students.

Dr M A Muhit, Pro Vice Chancellor of University of South Asia inaugurated the event, while Sayed Wasek Md Ali, Deputy Managing Director of Security Bank Ltd was present as chief guest.

During the inaugural session Professor Muhit said that the University of South Asia is leading the way with its career oriented curriculum and a long-standing commitment to quality teaching and learning and innovative research.


Workshop at Southern University Bangladesh

A workshop on Career Planning and Development in the Banking sector was arranged at the Southern University Bangladesh campus. The programme was jointly organised by Southern Career Planning and Development Centre and Standard Chartered Bank.

Under the supervision of Assistant Professor Kazi Nazmul Huda, the workshop was inaugurated by Dean of Business Administration, Professor Dr Abdul Muktadir.

The Keynote presenter of the workshop was Director of Wholesale Banking of Standard Chartered Bank, Bashirul Huda, Human Resource Manager, Fabiha Ashakin Ahmad and Relationship Officer, Amir Hamja.

After the successful completion of the workshop Pro Vice-Chancellor, Dr Sharifuzzman handed over certificates to the participants.
