On December 3, 2011, Raffles Institute of Higher Education conducted a Career Seminar at its college premises. Terence Tan, College Director, shared with the participants some thoughts on how to make career choices and decisions, and highlighted the premium education programmes Raffles offers to students, bringing international education to Bangladesh. Around two of the faculty members, Christoff Wiethoff, Business Lecturer from Germany, and Brian Newton Orvik, Interior Design Lecturer from USA, were present to answer questions related to their programmes.


Memorandum of Understanding Between

Daffodil International University, Bangladesh

Open University Malaysia, Malaysia

Daffodil International University (DIU) signed a bilateral Memorandum of Understandings (MOU) on International Partnership Programmes with Open University Malyasia, on December 1, 2011 at Daffodil International University.

Professor Dr M Lutfar Rahman, Vice Chancellor, Daffodil International University and Tan Sri Prof Dr Anuwar Ali, President, Open University Malyasia, signed the MOU on behalf of their respective institution. Md Sabur Khan, Board of Trustees, Emeritus Professor Dr Aminul Islam, S M Mahbub-Ul Haque Majumder, Dean, FSIT, Professor Dr M Mizanur Rahman and others were present during the signing ceremony.


BIHS to be converted into Public Health University

The two-day long '2nd Regional Seminar on Public Health' started on December 11 at Bangladesh Institute of Health Sciences (BIHS) campus in Mirpur. BIHS, is a sister organisation of BIRDEM. The WHO Collaborating Centre on Diabetes, in collaboration with Department of International Health of the University of Oslo in Norway, organised the seminar.

In addition, there has been six lecture sessions on topics ranging from non-communicable diseases, Geriatric Medicine, Mental Health, Health Policy and Programme and telemedicine by invited speakers from countries like India, Pakistan, Australia, Nepal and Bangladesh.


Celebrating Freedom

The teachers, students and employees of Jatiyo Kobi Kazi Nazrul Islam University (JKKNIU) at Trishal of Mymensingh brought out a colouful procession at the university campus marking Mymensingh Free Day on December 10. Mymensingh was freed on December 10 in 1971 from the hands of Occupation Pak Army.

The procession styled “Ananda Rally” brought out from university administrative building premises paraded the campus.

Vice-chancellor of JKKNIU Professor Dr Syed Giasuddin Ahmed led the procession.

Among others treasurer Professor Dr Md Abul Bashar, Dean of Social Science Faculty Dr Habibur Rahman and others were present at the rally.


JU Teacher Discovers New Species of Frog

A teacher of Jahangirnagar University (JU) traced two new species of frog recently. Dr Monirul Hasan, Associate Professor, Zoology discipline, discovered these species of frog in Rangamati and Bandarban. The species are Anderson's Bush Frog and Nicobarese Frog. Experts said it is difficult to trace new species of frog because of these characteristics of the creatures. Besides Bangladesh, lacks resources to sample to trace new species of frog.


Presentation on Ad Maker 2011 held in EDU

A presentation on "Ad Maker 2011" was held in East Delta University campus on December 4, 2011 by EDU. The Vice Chancellor of EDU, Professor M Sikandar, A Qaiyum Chowdhury, Dr Nurul Absar Nahid (Course Coordinator MBA), Rafia Akter, Rashel Al Karim, Zakia Sultana, Thufathunnessa Chowdhury, Pulak Barua, Deputy Registrar Sajal Kanti Barua and the students of EDU were present in the presentation. Three teams from EDU successfully participated in a competition on Ad Making and exhibition titled "Ad Maker 2011" organised by North South University on December 23, 2011.


Seminar on Road Safety held at East West University

Rotaract Club of East West University arranged a seminar on “Road Safety” on November 30 at the auditorium of East West University.

Advocate Tarana Halim, Member of Parliament, was present as the chief guest in this programme while Dr Mohammed Farashuddin, President, Board of Trustees of East West University chaired the whole session. Professor Ahmed Shafee, Vice Chancellor, EWU, Ekram Ahmed, Member, Public Service Commission, Munni Saha, Head of News, ATN News, and Nurul Aktar, Director, Energypac joined the event as respected guests.

Senior Journalist Munni Saha also spoke on this event, and expressed her emotion over the loss of Mishuk Munir and others in a recent road accident on Dhaka- Aricha highway in Manikganj. Students, teachers and administrative personnel of EWU attended the seminar.


IEEE IUB Student Branch Members Visit Energypac

A group of 30 senior students from the School of Engineering Computer Science (SECS) of Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) visited Energypac on October 31, 2011 as a part of their field experience programme. In this trip to the largest transformer and switchgear makers in the private sectors in Bangladesh, the students were accompanied by their Dean of the School Professor Mohammad Anwer, IEEE IUB Student Branch Counselor Dr Abdur Razzak and two other faculty members - Dr Salim Khosru, Dr Feroz Ahmed. The students were briefed on the step-by-step construction process of power transformer, generation and distribution transformer, instrument transformer and switchgearand& protection devices by the factory engineers.
