Workshop on New Media & Photojournalism

Write3 is organising a workshop for technical professionals and aspiring photographers interested in New Media and Photojournalism. The workshop will be open on January 28, 2012 from 3 pm to 6 pm. The keynote speakers in this workshop will be Shafiq Alam, Deputy Bureau Chief, AFP, Farid Hossain, Chief Correspondent, The Associated Press (AP) Abir Abdullah, Correspondent, European Press photo Agency (EPA).

About 150 participants from 9 public and private university photography clubs, journalism department and photojournalism institutions from Bangladesh will be selected, who will be taught the tools and techniques of photojournalism and the art of reporting and creating stories using new media.

CU at World Debate Championship 2011

Chittagong University, for the first time in its debating history participated at World University Debating Championship (WUDC) 2011 organised by De La Salle University Debating Society held at Manila, Philippines from December 27, 2011 to January 04 2012.Chittagong University Debating Society (CUDS) has been working for long time to confirm the participation of Chittagong University at world's most prestigious debate competition. The team members representing Chittagong University were Badruddoza Jewel and Kholil Zibran Shakkor.

A four member delegation team of Bangkok University, Thailand made a courtesy visit to Daffodil International University (DIU) on January 4. The members of the delegation team comprised of Mathana Santiwat, PhD, President, Bangkok University, Thailand, Panadda Unyapho, PhD, Director, International Affairs Office, Bangkok University, Thailand. Professor Donald James Gomes, PhD, Dean, School of Life Science, North South University and Professor G U Ahsan, Chairman, Department of Public Health, NSU. They exchanged opinions and views on various educational aspects of the two universities regarding educational programme exchange, educational cooperation and holding international conference on teaching and learning.


Bangkok University President Called on JU VC

President of Bangkok University, Dr Mathana Santiwat called on Professor Shariff Enamul Kabir, Vice-Chancellor Jahangirnagar University (JU) at the latter's office on January 5. Dr Santiwat and Dr Kabir discussed matters of mutual interest especially the possibilities of understanding collaborative programmes between Jahangirnagar University and Bangkok University in the fields of higher education and research in different faculties. Dr Panadda Unyapho, Director of International Affairs, Bangkok University, Professor Muniruzzaman, Pro-VC (academic), JU, Professor Md Forhad Hossain, Pro-VC (administration), Professor Md Nasir Uddin, Treasurer, JU, Abu Bkr Siddique, Registrar, JU, Dr Donald James Gomes, Professor, North South University were present in the occasion.

A seminar on “The contribution of Education to the Economic Development in Bangladesh” was held at the Theatre Hall of Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University (JKKNIU), Mymensingh, on January 3.

Vice-Chancellor of the university Professor Dr Syed Giasuddin Ahmed inaugurated the seminar as chief guest.

Porfessor Dr Md Abul Bashar, treasurer of the university addressed the seminar as special guest with the dean of Economics Department, Dr Habibur Rahman in the chair.

Md Tanzil Hossain, lecturer of Economics Department presented the key-note paper at the seminar. Among others, Md Bakhtier Hossain of Economics Department addressed the seminar.

Teachers and students of the department were also present at the seminar.

Emphasising on technical and vocational education, the speakers said that now the importance of technical and vocational education is being embraced all over the world and for all-out development of a country including social and political, education is a must.

A Seminar on ICT in Leadership and Change Management was held by University of Development Alternatives (UODA) on the occasion of “UODA WEEK 2012," a celebration of 10 Years of UODA. Faculty of Engineering, UODA organised this seminar on December 31, 2011 at the university auditorium. SASM Taifur, Chairman of Center for ICT Policy Research, CIPR was the keynote speaker. The discussion highlighted the importance of ICT in education. The speakers said that the success of ICT in the coming years rests largely on the proactive policy makers. The seminar was concluded with a question answer session and discussion.
