Admission Fair held at BU

A three day long Admission Fair took place at Bangladesh University (BU) from February 1-3, 2012. The fair was inaugurated at the university's own campus at Mohammadpur by the Secretary, Board of Trustees Engineer M A Ghulam Dastagir. Different forms of discounts up to 100% were offered to students seeking admission in Spring Semester 2012.

Besides, the students interacted with experienced and senior teachers of all the departments of the university. The student counselors cooperated by providing necessary information to students during the fair.


International Seminar on 'Bangladesh Archive'

The department of History and Archeology of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR), organised a seminar titled 'Bangladesh Archives' on February 1 at the hall room of its Academic building 3. Professor Dr M A Jalil Miah, Vice-Chancellor of BRUR was the chief guest.

The keynote speakers were Florus Geradts and Sigfried Janzing, Dutch Archivist. They spoke about their experience and knowledge on 'archives' in the perspective of Netherlands and Bangladesh. They also explained importance of archives to achieve good governance and ensure right to information.


Annual Picnic of BFIT Held

The Annual Picnic 2012 of BGMEA Institute of Fashion and Technology (BIFT) was held on January 31 at Nahar Garden in Manikgonj. Different games like pillow passing, musical chair, cock fight, 100 meter race and cultural activities continued throughout the day.

The Principal of BIFT Col Md Mosharrof Hossain (Retd) and Registrar Gp Capt ANM Rafiqul Alam (Retd) attended the picnic and distributed the raffle draw and other prizes among the winners. Renowned band 'Souls' entertained the audience with their songs. Souls vocal Partho Barua dedicated a song 'O bondhu toke miss korchi vishon' to the 091 Batch final year students.


Foundation Day of DIU Observed

Daffodil International University (DIU) celebrated its 10th Foundation Anniversary with festivity at its permanent campus at Ashulia Model Town, Savar, Dhaka on February 04, 2012.

Professor Dr A K Azad Chowdhury, Chairman, University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.

He said, for balanced and integrated education system, practical knowledge and theoretical knowledge are simultaneously taught at Daffodil International University. It has been doing that very sincerely from the beginning.

The day long programme included bus rally, 'pitha utshab', blood donation campaign, cultural programme, tree plantation, raffle draw, picnic and live concert.


59th Orientation Ceremony of IUBAT held

Recently the 59th Orientation Ceremony took place with much galore and circumstance at the International University of Business Agriculture and Technology (IUBAT). The ceremony was attended by freshmen and faculty from all departments. Professor Dr M Alimulah Miyan presided over the ceremony. The speakers advised them about how to use the library, computer lab and the importance of holistic development of a student through combining academic and extra curricular activities.


Seminar on Cancer Awareness at Southeast University

A seminar titled “Cancer Awareness among young people” was held at Southeast University Seminar Hall February 6, 2012. Professor Dr Md Habibullah Talukder, Head of Epidermiology Department, National Institute of Cancer Research and Hospital was the keynote speaker. Professor Syed Fakhrul Hassan, Dean (acting), School of Science and Engineering of Southeast University was the Chair. Professor Dr Nazmul Qais, Chairman, Department of Pharmacy was the discussant in the seminar. More than 500 students attended the seminar.


NUB hold Group Debate Competition

Debating Club of Northern University Bangladesh, arranged a week-long 'Group Debate Competition' at its Banani Campus from January 23-29. 'I think, therefore I am' was the slogan of the competition. Professor Md Nurul Isalm, Dean, Faculty of Science and Engineering was the chief guest.

The title of the final round debate was 'Arranged marriage'. Professor Dr Khondoker Shafayet Hossain, Department. of Business Administration was the moderator of the final round debate competition.


Pharma Week observed at SUB

Department of Pharmacy of State University of Bangladesh (SUB) observed “Pharma Week-2012” from January 28 to February 4, 2012.

The Pharma Week 2012 carried film festival, intra-department cricket tournament, Badminton championship, Carom (single and double) championship, Ludo (single ad double) championship, Chess championship, Table Tennis (single and double) championship, annual picnic and cultural programmes.

On February 4, “Prize Giving Ceremony and Cultural Programme” was held at SUB main campus auditorium. Major General (Retd.) Dr M. Shahjahan, Vice Chancellor (Acting) and Treasurer of SUB was present as chief guest and Mr Kamrul Hasan, Chief Operating Officer, Apex Pharma Limited was present as special guest while Professor Dr Rebecca Banoo Head, Department of Pharmacy chaired the programme. Souvenir of the 12th batch titled “Pharmabond”, edited by AKM Faizul Islam and Md Al Hasan Opu was launched by the chief guest.
