Global Alliance Memberships to ULAB

GA Board Member Professor Gregor Halff visited the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) on July 2, 2012 to present the ULAB membership certificate to the Swiss-based Global Alliance for Public Relations and Communication Management (GA). During the event, ULAB Vice Chancellor Professor Imran Rahman explained the importance of GA membership to ULAB while Professor Halff discussed how ULAB and GA can mutually benefit from each other.

The GA Board approved ULAB's application for membership in a meeting held on May 9 in Sao Paolo, Brazil. GA is the confederation of the world's major PR and Communication Management associations and institutions, representing 160,000 practitioners and educators around the world.


Raffles' Orientation

Raffles Institute of Higher Education, Dhaka organised an orientation programme for its July 2012 intake on July 1, 2012.

The College Director, Terence Tan, shared with students and parents the necessity of premium education in Bangladesh during the orientation programme.


Chairman of the Board of Trustees at NSU elected

M A Hashem, a Founder Life Member of the North South University (NSU) Trust, has been unanimously elected as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the NSU Trust and the Board of Governors of NSU Foundation respectively at its 1st and 20th Annual General Meetings held on June 21, 2012. Md Shajahan, the current Chairman, handed over the charge to new Chairman on the same day.

Mr Hashem has been elected for one year term for the year 2012-13. He had also served the NSU Foundation as its Chairman for the year 2004-05. The NSU Foundation is the founder of NSU, the first private university of the country.


18th Meeting of BoT held at Prime University

The 18th meeting of the Board of Trustees of Prime University was held on June 27, 2012 in the conference room of the university presided over by Sajjatuz Jumma, Chairman, Board of Trustees, Prime University. M Moniruzzaman, Senior Vice Chairman, Md Ashraf Ali, Vice Chairman, Professor Dr M Abul Hossain Sikder, Treasurer, Professor Dr M Abdus Sobhan, Member, and many others were present.

The meeting discussed the issue of enhancement of pay scale of all categories of employees of the university along with other agenda of chalking out different programme for the academic and administrative development of the university and took appropriate decision.


Taking One Step Ahead

A MoU was signed on June 24, 2012 between Bradford College (UK) and Bangladesh University for collaboration in academic, professional and research development. Professor Dr Golam Ali Fakir, Vice Chancellor (in charge), Bangladesh University and Adil, Regional Head, Bradford College (UK) signed on behalf of their respective sides.

Both the institutions agreed to exchange students and will enter into further progress to promote research through the collaboration.


Film Festival

Odessa International Film Festival will take place from Friday, July 13, 2012 in Odessa, Ukraine. The films selected for screening at this year's OIFF belong to “art-main-stream” films possessing artistic sense, yet accessible to broadest possible audience. Abdus Selim, an academician, translator and dramatist of Bangladesh has been asked to play an integral role of a jury member at the festival. The jury will give the DON QUIJOTE Prize to one film at the competition.


Professional Skills Development Programme (PSDP)- Spring 2012

Classes for Professional Skills Development Programme (PSDP) commenced from May 2, 2012. Asma Banu, Senior Assistant Director, Career Services Office is the core facilitator of this programme. Mode of Teaching: Presentation, Handout, Interactive Session (group discussion, role plays, and real life examples) are taught in the sessions. Two sections have been opened for PSDP, Spring 2012. A total number of 140 registered students are taking this programme.

The purpose of this programme is to enhance the abilities and confidence of diverse students by creating and delivering innovative career development, job search and experiential education support in their pursuit of career success.

Primary and mass education minister Dr Afsarul Amin has said, the meritorious students will take the country forward.

He was speaking as the chief guest at a reception accorded to the children of the life members of Chattagram Samity-Dhaka who achieved GPA-5 in this year's SSC and equivalent examinations.

The Samity, at a function at its auditorium at Chattagram Bhaban in the city on July 1, 2012 also announced the names of the recipients of Chattagram Samity Stipend-2012 meant for graduation level meritorious and insolvent students from greater Chittagong studying at different public universities, Engineering universities and Medical colleges.

The chief guest Dr Afsarul Amin handed over the cheques to the recipients of the stipends. He also gave away crests, certificates and awards to the SSC level students who scored GPA-5.


EDU becomes Runners-Up in Social Business Plan

East Delta University, Chittagong, has become the Runners-Up among 22 teams of public and private universities of Bangladesh in the Social Business Plan Competition 2012, organised by Yunus Center, Dhaka. Nobel Laureate Professor Dr Mohammad Yunus handed over the trophy to the EDU team led by Associate Professor Dr Mir M Nurul Absar Nahid on June 28, 2012, the social Business Day, in Dhaka. The team from University of Dhaka was the champion in the competition.


IUB Students visit Energypac

Recently students of EEE and ETE Department from Indenpendent University Bangladesh (IUB) visited Energypac Electronics Ltd factory as the requirement of other academic curriculum. There they observed various production related activities that are environment friendly and got knowledge of energy savings concept and how the company's product saves energy. Humayun Rashid, Managing Director of the company was with them.


Seminar on 'Higher education in Business Studies at abroad' at Presidency University

A seminar on higher education in Business Studies at abroad was held at Presidency University on July 1,2012.

In the seminar, University of Chester and Anglia Ruskin University's representative Mir Haque presented the keynote. The seminar was presided over by Professor Muhammad Mahboob Ali, PhD. A large number of students also discussed various issues. In the seminar, speakers argued that at UK, state owned universities provide better education and they will give the students global branding of education.

Among other faculty members Tamima Hossain, Abdus Shakur, Rehena Parvin, Hasina Marium, Alamgir Hossain and Deputy Director (Admission and Administration) Yasin Bari also spoke on the occasion.
