CEO of Asian Cricket Council visits PHSA

On July 7, 2012, the CEO of Asian Cricket Council, Syed Ashraful Haq, visited the campus of Pledge Harbor School and Sports Academy (PHSA), Gazipur, Maona, the country's first English medium boarding school with IGCSE and IB curriculum. ATM Saidul Alam, Chairman of PHSA, also accompanied Haq during his visit. Haq highly praised the facilities of PHSA and hoped to arrange cricket training and practice sessions for national and international cricket teams.


Seminar on Fashion Designing

Bangladesh Garment Management Institute (BGMI) arranged a seminar on August 5 in their Institute Auditorium on 'Fashion Designing and Merchandising.' They discussed how an individual can get success through fashion designing and knowledge over merchandising.


Fourth Leadership Training Programme of BYLC held

BYLC launched its fourth Building Bridges through Leadership Training Junior (BBLT-J) programme with an inaugural Ceremony at the BRAC Center Inn in Dhaka on June 28, 2012 with Musa Ibrahim, the first Bangladeshi to reach the summit of Mount Everest, as special guest. 41 participants from 68 schools and madrassas were competitively selected from 303 applications for the month-long programme.


First Ever Earth Science Olympiad in Bangladesh

Bangladesh Youth Environmental Initiative (BYEI) organised an environmental and Earth sciences Olympiad under the name of National Earth Olympiad 2012 (NEO'12) for the first time in Bangladesh. The first round for Dhaka division was held on August 10 at Saint Joseph's Higher Secondary School and for Chittagong division the first round was held on August 3 at Sunshine Grammar School and College. The selected participants from the first round will be invited to the final round of the competition, which will take place on September 15, 2012 at International School of Dhaka. The students of the 2002 batch of East West University (EWU) celebrated their 10th reunion on August 4, 2012. About 100 Students from the batch made the event successful with their presence.

To mark the Holy month of Ramadan, English Literary Club (ELC) of Daffodil International University (DIU) in association with Turkey Cultural Center, Dhaka arranged a day long Photography Exhibition titled “The Horizon of Islam” highlighting the religious and cultural heritage of the Muslim World at DIU Auditorium on August 2, 2012.


Cleanliness Programme held

Bangladesh University (BU), in collaboration with Smile Foundation of Bangladesh, has recently arranged a massive cleanliness programme in the surrounding areas of Dhanmondi Lake. A number of students from BU along with the volunteers of Smile Foundation took part in this programme.

Southeast University organised a discussion programme on 'Lessons of Ramadan' and Iftaar Mahfil at Southeast University Seminar Hall on August 5. Md Rezaul Karim, Chairman, Board of Trustees, South Asia Foundation and Southeast University was the chief guest at the occasion.

On July 30, Voice of Business, the business club of Faculty of Business Studies (FBS), University of Dhaka organised a seminar titled 'An Operation Manager's Success Story: Akku Chowdhury' at the conference hall of FBS, DU. Akku Chowdhury, Managing Director of Transcom Food, was the keynote speaker at the occasion.


Laptops distributed at NUB

The Department of Marketing Development, Promotion and Branding (MPB) of Northern University Bangladesh (NUB), arranged a 'Laptop Distribution Ceremony' on July 29, 2012, at its campus at Banani. Professor AYM Abdullah, Chairman, NUB Trust distributed the laptops among the students of 'Summer Semester-2012' as the chief guest.


Campaign for the HSC and A-Level Students at ULAB

University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) organised a short course titled “Skills for Life” on June 15 for the students who have appeared in HSC or A Level exam in 2012. The nine weeks long course was totally free of cost which contained three modules: “Essential Skills” including English Language Skills and Information and communications technology (ICT), “Preparing Yourself”, containing courses on Public Speaking and Career Planning and “Protecting Yourself”, including courses on knowing everyday law, staying healthy, good environment and disaster safety.

This campaign was supported by Bangladesh Fire Service and Civil Defense, Bangladesh Human Rights Foundation (BHRF), Radda MCH-FP Center, Bangladesh Copyright and IP Forum, ULAB Career Services Center and different clubs of ULAB.


Seminar on Quality Education

A seminar on “Quality Assurance in Higher Education in Bangladesh” was held at UGC Auditorium on August 8, 2012. Professor Quamrul H Mazumder, PhD, Department of Computer Science, Engineering and Physics, University of Michigan-Flint, USA, presented the key-note paper. Professor Dr M Muhibur Rahman, Member, UGC, Chaired the seminar. Professor Mazumder said that quality is not an achievement rather it is a continuous improvement. Education of Bangladesh should be globally recognised.


Photo Exhibition on Bangabandhu

Marking the 37th martyrdom of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and National Mourning Day, Bangladesh Agricultural University organised a ten-day photo exhibition at BAU Central Library Auditorium on August 6. The photo exhibition titled "Bangabandhu, The Father of the Nation" was inaugurated by Vice-Cancellor of BAU, Professor Md Rafiqul Hoque. The exhibition will continue till August 15. More than 100 photos on life and work of the leader were displayed at the exhibition. The photographs included some rare shots of Bangabandhu's visit at BAU on February 13 in 1973.
