Courtesy Call to UGC Chairman

Professor Dr Dalem Chandra Barman, newly appointed Vice-Chancellor of ASA University Bangladesh (ASAUB), made a courtesy call on Professor Dr A K Azad Chowdhury, Chairman, University Grants Commission of Bangladesh (UGC), on October 21, 2012, at his office. Professor Barman congratulated the Chairman with a flower bouquet and gave him some publication of ASA University Bangladesh. Professor Barman briefed the Chairman of UGC about the course curricula, various facilities given to the students etc. Md Khalequzzaman, Registrar-in-Charge of ASA University, Bangladesh, was also present during the courtesy call.


Blood Donation and Seminar at Green University

A seminar on 'Voluntary Blood Donation and Safe Blood Transfusion Awareness' followed by blood grouping and survey programme organised by Manush-Green University Unit, a voluntary blood donor organisation, was held on October 20, 2012. Md Atiqur Rahman, Director of Students' Affairs, GUB presided over the programme. Md Shahid Ullah, Treasurer of GUB was present in the programme as the chief guest while Nishat Majumder, the first Bangladeshi woman to conquer Mount Everest was present as the special guest.


U-17 Camp

Pledge Harbor School, a private international boarding school, and Bangladesh Cricket Control Board arranged a two week long U-17 camp recently. First of its kind, the campaign was held according to the commitment given to BCCB by PHSA. Pledge Harbor School has pledged to give its support for the development of BCCB. In the last day of the campaign a friendly match was held in between PHSA and U-17 team named Red and Green respectively.

The match was observed by the Chairman of Pledge Harbor School and Sports Academy, A T M Saidul Alam, Bowling Coach of National Team, Shen Margasan, School Director and Principal, Martin F Mai and other officials.


Study Tour at SUB

Students of the 15th batch of the Department of Pharmacy, State University of Bangladesh (SUB), organised a seven day long study tour form October 14-20, 2012. They enjoyed their adventurous tour in Bandarbans, Cox's Bazar and Saint Martins. A total of 20 students joined tour guide, Md Masud Rana Sarker, Coordinator, and Rakib Uddin, Lecturer, Department of Pharmacy, SUB.


Microsoft App-a-thon

Microsoft is going to host a daylong event, called “Microsoft App-a-thon,” an app development marathon for Windows 8 and Windows Phone, at Institute of Information Technology, University of Dhaka on November 3, 2012. As part of that preparation, 400 students and professional developers have been trained on how to build apps, in eight universities, and two online webinars, first time in Bangladesh. Universities include Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, IIT-DU, American International University Bangladesh, North South University, Kkulna University of Engineering and Technology, East West University, BRAC University and United International University. Most of the workshops were arranged by Microsoft Student Partners (MSPs) who are the representatives of Microsoft at campuses. All events, trainings and workshops are free for all engineering students and technology enthusiasts across the country. SAF pledges $1 million to UNESCO

The South Asia Foundation (SAF), a not-for-profit association that operates in India and the seven other countries of the SAARC community, has decided to further the goals of women's education and empowerment by pledging $1 million to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO).

The contribution has been announced on October 16 during a meeting of UNESCO's Goodwill Ambassadors in Paris. The money was pledged in a letter sent to Director-General Irina Bokova by France Marquet, a trustee of the South Asia Foundation. Marquet will be travelling to Paris from the south of France to present the cheque. Dr Kamal Hossain is the Chairperson of SAF Bangladesh Chapter and Professor Jamilur Reza Choudhury is the Vice Chairperson.


United Nations University Awarded IUBAT

United Nations University (UNU-IAS) has presented RCE Recognition Award to International University of Business Agriculture and Technology (IUBAT) for outstanding contribution to community learning in the field of health, hygiene and nutrition among slum dwellers living in adjoining areas of capital city, Dhaka.

The Director of United Nations University (UNU-IAS) handed over the award to Professor Dr M Alimullah Miyan, Founder and Vice Chancellor of IUBAT at the 7th Global RCE Conference held at Tongyeong, Republic of Korea.

UN University has acknowledged IUBAT led RCE Greater Dhaka project entitled 'Improvement of Health, Hygiene and Nutritional Status of Urban Slum Dwellers' which has contributed largely to Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) in Bangladesh. Sustainable development, in wider sense of the term, means building communities across the world, to live healthy life comfortably within a better environment keeping ecological balance all the way.


MoU signed between Department of Pharmacy of NSU and University of Greenwich, UK

Department of Pharmacy of North South University (NSU), Bangladesh has signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the reputed University of Greenwich, UK recently. The MoU will develop a collaborative partnership between the two institutions in academic and research areas including exchange of students and expert faculty members, various trainings and advanced research activities.

The agreements have been signed by Professor Simon Jarvis, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic Development) on behalf of The University of Greenwich, UK and Professor Dr Md Abdus Sattar, Acting Vice-Chancellor on behalf of NSU.
