2nd Convocation of ULAB held

"To the Government and to the people of Bangladesh, I wish to express here, our people's most heartfelt gratitude for being with us through the years of uncertainties,” stated Nobel Laureate and Ex-President of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, Jose Ramos-Horta at the second convocation of the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) held on November 18, 2012 at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC), Dhaka, Bangladesh.

Professor Dr Alauddin Ahmed, Advisor (Education, Social Development and Political Affairs) to the Prime Minister, Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh, graced the occasion as the chief guest. He congratulated the graduates, the faculty members and the parents. “The main objective of education is to create model citizens and to inspire them to invest their knowledge in the development of the country, I hope all our graduates will be successful in achieving this goal,” he stated.

Dr Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury, Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Professor Dr Atful Hye Shibly, Member of the University Grants Commission were the special guests. ULAB's Vice-Chancellor, Professor Imran Rahman inaugurated and concluded the convocation ceremony on behalf of the President of The People's Republic of Bangladesh and Chancellor of ULAB, Md Zillur Rahman.

The theme for this year's convocation was 'Be and Become.' 'Be' denotes a person's present while 'become' refers to a person's future. A person's present may be seen in his or her sense of being (composed of both temporal and spiritual dimensions) while a person's future may be viewed as having infinite possibilities (sense of becoming). A total of 704 students received certificates among whom 517 students were from undergraduate programmes including BBA, Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering, English and Humanities and Media Studies and Journalism. The rest of the 187 students were from graduate programmes including MBA and EMBA.
