BUBT Celebrates Mega IT Festival

The opening ceremony of the CSE FIESTA-2013, organised by the Department of CSE, BUBT, was held on February 16, 2013 at the university premises. Mostafa Faruque Mohammed, Minister, Ministry of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), inaugurated the programme as the chief guest. Professor Dr Shafique Ahmed Siddique, Chairman, BUBT Trustee Board, was also at the festival to grace the occasion as the guest of honour.

Dr M Kaykobad, Professor, Department of CSE, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) and Dr Abul L Haque, Professor, Department of EECS, North South University, were also present there as special guests. Professor Md Abu Saleh, the Vice Chancellor, BUBT, presided over the function.

On this great occasion of 8 daylong annual BUBT CSE FIESTA-2013, the host (BUBT) organised numerous brainstorming and creative events.

Top 10 programming team will be awarded crests, certificates and prize money. Also each participant and contestant will get a certificate.


Human Interventions in Ecosystem

Ecosystem is an important thing for having a better environment as well as a chain of organisms, but due to the intervention of humans total ecosystem is under threat. To show how human are intervening, a three day long programme namely 'Encounter 6' organised by the Earth Club of North South University launched on February 11, 2013.

The theme of this year's encounter is 'Human Interventions in Ecosystem'- interventions such as deforestation, hunting, industrial residue etc.

Benajir Ahmed, Past Chairman and founder life member, Board of Trustees, NSU Trust inaugurated the event where Professor Dr A T M Nurul Amin, Past Dean, School of Engineering and Applied Science and Dr Md Sirajul Islam, Chairman, Department of Environmental Science and Management were present. Guests visited the exhibition and joined in the seminar.


11th Foundation Anniversary of DIU

Daffodil International University observed 11th foundation anniversary with great enthusiasm and gala events on February 16, 2013 at its permanent campus at Ashulia Model Town. Architect Yeafesh Osman, State Minister, Minister of Science and Technology, Bangladesh adorned the chair as chief guest. Md Sabur Khan, Chairman, Board of Trustees of Daffodil International University presided over the programme. Professor Dr M Lutfar Rahman, Vice Chancellor, and Emeritus Professor Dr Aminul Islam, Founder, Vice Chancellor of DIU also addressed the function.

The day long programme included bus rally, project exhibition, departmental display, games and sports, fun events, raffle draw, tree plantation, picnic and many more.


Dare to Care for Tigers

From February 16- 26, 2013, twenty adventurers from all over the world will be cycling more than 400km on rickshaws across the beautiful landscape of Bangladesh to champion the protection of the endangered Bengal tiger and the largest mangrove forest in the world - the Sundarbans. The event aims to support the tiger conservation activities of WildTeam, a nature conservation organisation based in Bangladesh.

The challengers will travel on the most iconic and colourful mode of transportation: the cycle rickshaw. Lucy Boddam- Whetham, Director of WildTeam started off the event by explaining what makes this challenge unique.

Professor Md Anwarul Islam, CEO of WildTeam, talked about the importance of coming forward to protect the Bengal tigers. His Excellency the Danish Ambassador, Mr Svend Olling, also a participant in the challenge said “Tigers are endangered, losing 97% of its population globally over the last century and are under threat from the growing international demand for tiger products. I believe that it is not too late to ensure a secure future for tigers, and that the time to act is now to protect the most celebrated symbol of nature's majestic beauty.”


Hoisting National Flag in Support of Independence

Northern University Bangladesh (NUB) hoisted the national flag by singing the national anthem on February 17, 2013 at 10 am to all the campuses of NUB as per declaration made from Shabag movement. ABM Rashedul Hassan, Treasurer, Md Abdur Rouf, Registrar of NUB, Professor Saeed Alamgir Jafar, Dean, Faculty of Business, Professor Dr Sadruddin Ahmed, Professor Dr A W M Abdul Huq, Dean, Faculty of Law and other teachers-students, officers and staff on NUB were also present in the event.


Fresher's Reception at ASA University Bangladesh

ASA University Bangladesh (ASAUB) organised a fresher's reception Fall 2012 and Spring 2013 followed by a cultural programme on February 11, 2013. Chairman, Board of Trustees, ASAUB, Md Shafiqual Haque Choudhury was present as the chief guest while Vice Chancellor of ASA University Bangladesh Professor Dr Dalem Ch Barman, presided over the programme. Professor Md Muinuddin Khan, Adviser and Former Vice Chancellor of ASAUB, Professor Dr Abdul Hye, Dean, Faculty of Business, and many others were present at the programme.


Seminar on Hybrid Journalism

The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication at Daffodil International University (DIU) held a seminar on 'Hybrid Journalism for the 21st Century' recently, at the Virtual Auditorium of the University at Sukrabad, Dhanmondi, Dhaka.

Scott Craig, Head of News, SATV attended the seminar as the key speaker while Professor Dr Golam Rahman, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of DIU presided over the same.

Sheikh Shafiul Islam, Assistant Professor of the Department moderated the session and explained that hybrid journalism was the result of using hi-tech information and communication technologies in the field of journalism incorporating multi-disciplinary knowledge.

Professor Dr Golam Rahman delivered his welcome speeches at the seminar attended by the students and teachers of the department who shared their views with the experts.


NDF BD National Debate Festival

The two day long Trust Bank 7th NDF BD National Debate Festival 2013 will begin in the city on March 2-3, 2013.

Central debate organisation National Debate Federation Bangladesh (NDF BD) is organising the biggest talent gathering.

The programme will include publication of debate dictionary 'jucktipotro' which was edited by chairman of NDF BD AKM Shoaib and Fahamida Yesmin.

Inaugural ceremony, colorful rally, lifetime achievement award giving ceremony, debate workshop, and 10 types of exhibition of debate, public speaking competitions and other programmes will be part of the event.
