The Manchurian Candidate

This summer everything is under control

Genre: Thriller
Director: Jonathan Demme
Distributor: Paramount Pictures

Cast: Denzel Washington, Liev Schreiber, Meryl Streep, Kimberly Elise, Jon Voight

Captain Bennett Marco (Washington) and Sgt. Raymond Shaw (Schreiber) served together during the Persian Gulf War (the first one), and were part of a platoon of U.S. soldiers who were kidnapped by the enemy, and brainwashed to become pawns once they return home. Now, ten years later, Raymond Shaw is climbing the political ladder, as his mother's (Streep) new husband is a powerful senator helping a presidential candidate. Marco, however, is not dealing with the adjustment after the war as well and eventually remembers being brainwashed. Knowing that it's just a matter of time before Shaw is called to service by his handler, Marco contacts Shaw to try to get through to him before something terrible happens...

The Village
Run. The truce is ending

Genre: Drama / Romance/ Sci-Fi
Director: M. Night Shyamalan
Distributor: Touchstone Pictures
Cast: Judy Greer, Bryce Dallas Howard, William Hurt, Joaquin Phoenix, Adrien Brody

At first glance this late 19th century village seems picture perfect. However, this close-knit community lives with the frightening knowledge that a race of creatures resides in the woods around them. Despite the advice of his elders, a curious and determined Lucius Hunt has a burning desire to step beyond the boundaries of the town into the unknown. Lucius' strength is matched only by Ivy Walker, a beautiful and mesmerising blind woman with an unusual wisdom beyond her years. Her fearless nature and gift-like perception are beyond anything Lucius has ever known. Both Lucius and the mischievous Noah Percy admire Ivy passionately, though her heart only has room for one of them. Her devotion eventually leads her down a forbidden path where terrifying truths are revealed. The ominous presence of the unknown boils over into chaos for the town, with one's bravery being the only thing that can save them. The truce between "The Village" and the creatures is ending
