Beautiful Bangladesh

Photos: Coralie Wenger

There are many Haors in the north-eastern district of Sunamganj, Bangladesh. It is a unique wetland ecosystem of national and international importance. Tangua-Haor, which is close to the border with India, is a particularly wonderful and peaceful area and it is full of birds, water plants and grasslands. In 2000 the Haor was declared the country's second Ramsar site it is therefore recognised as being of international importance. The Tanguar Haor also plays an important role in fish production as it functions as a 'mother fishery' for the country.
