From Pabna

Pabna Zila School since 1836

Pabna Zila School is one of the oldest schools in the district as well as the northern part of the country. With the mission of educating the children the school started its journey during the British era. In 1836 the school was established in the village Raghabpur. Babu Digambar Shaha established the school as a primary school which later turned into a secondary school in 1935. In 1844 the school was shifted to Abdul Hamid Road in the district headquarter.

Students of Pabna Zila School have always gotten good results. The students from Pabna Zila School achieved board standing results 1948, 1952, 1956, 1955, 1961. Md. Hasanuzzaman Talukder had scored the first place in 1955 and Mir Ashraf Ali

Pabna Zila School has achieved second place in the Rajshahi education board. All the students passed and 50 percent student achieved at 5 GPA. 231 students have appeared in the SSC examination this year and passed all.

“I am proud to be a student of Pabna Zila School. I am hopeful that I will do well in the SSC,” said Md. Amir Mehedi Omit, a class ten student.

The school is situated on 2.95 acres of land in Abdul Hamid Road of the district headquarter. There are 4 buildings in Pabna Zila school while two buildings are used as classrooms.

School authorities have demanded for an auditorium but no result. “Due to the lack of auditoriums we often can't have cultural programmes in the school. Also the inadequate classrooms are one of the main problems of the school, sources said. Just two buildings are used as classrooms for 2200 students. The school authorities have demanded to establish the new classrooms.”

“We don't have an auditorium or even sufficient classrooms. The teachers and the students are performing their duties well so the results are pretty good. The teachers are very cooperative, the students are attentive.” Gouro Chandra Mandal, the Headmaster said. We have asked the authorities for these resources.

Meanwhile there is a complaint against the teachers too. Most of the time the teachers prefer their private students. The school authorities have denied these allegations.

“Teachers are very cooperative towards the students and that's why the results are good. The complaints against the teachers are baseless,” the headmaster said. He stressed that teachers needed to meet with the parents for developing communication.

Pabna Zila School has produced many brilliant students. Poet Abu Hena Mostafa Kamal, a prominent poet and musician of the country was once a brilliant student of the school. National shooter Asif was a student here.

Kasimuddin Ahmed was a teacher at Pabna Zila School and his name continues to inspire students. The Pakistan Occupation army killed the freedom fighter-teacher Kasimuddin during the Liberation War.
