An iftar extravaganza

Mahdin Mahboob

Memories of four months of complete bliss came vividly alive on 11th October, 2006 at our favourite BRAC University Cafeteria when one hundred and eleven of us (the batches of Summer & Fall 2003 ) gathered up for an Iftar Party. Everyone seemed to be delightfully lost in a dream world back to the good old days at TARC, Savar. The same old people the same friendly faces, the same old Iftar menu but just in a different venue this time. It possibly couldn't have got better than this! Almost all the students of our batch showed up in this reunion iftar which also marked the 3rd year of our presence in the university that we are all proud to be part of. Eight young guns from our batch, led by Arif Majumder from CSE Department, worked day and night to make the event a success. The menu and the overall organizing of the program were simply awesome! However, the special attraction of the program was the picture slideshow of some of the most hilarious moments (with perfectly suiting captions and expert commentary) which everyone enjoyed with roars of laughter. The event thus paved the way to a grand reunion we are planning to have in December this year.

Iftar with a new touch

Irtiza A. Farooq

A lot of us always complain that there is nothing to do in Dhaka city. Especially in this month of Ramadan when during day we cannot do much because we are fasting and at night…. well we can't really do any thing at night other than going to some restaurants or coffee houses. I think that it is totally wrong. We as the younger generation can do anything and enjoy anywhere if we want to. For example, we can even turn a simple event like having Iftaar into an awesome adventure!!

One day after class my friends and I were bored. We didn't have any thing to do and we couldn't find any place to go because it was just before Iftaar. So we decided that we will have Iftaar together and we will do it with a blast. We are all students of BRAC University and our university is located just beside Gulshan Lake. So we took some rickshaws and went to the lake. There, we bought some food and hired a boat and drifted off to get away from our boredom.

The boat was rocking from left to right and the cool breeze was taking us to a place where we can't even hope to reach with all the riches of this world. After some time we heard the Azaan and so we started our Iftaar.

The menu was simple. It was the kind of food that we usually have, but for some bizarre reason it tasted much better. The boatman also joined us and we could see that he too was enjoying this Iftaar party on a boat.
