A Perfect circle

Tayseer

If you are thinking that I am going to write about the progressive rock band of the 90s, then you are wrong. This is our ever lasting close-knit friend circle I am going to write about. Why the title 'A Perfect Circle'? Because all the members of the group filled with the perfection of their own characteristics! And who are these guys who constitute this perfect circle? Well, here they are. Introducing first Rakeb, very cool guy, handsome, sometimes he looks so cool that girls just can't take their eyes off him. He knows the girls are staring at him, but he doesn't care! He just ignores them and we don't know why? One thing is very cool about him that he is very helpful, just as a real friend should be. He is lazy and a little bit careless.

If Rakeb is the master of giving pain, then compare to Sajjad, Rakeb is nothing. Sajjad is the master of all masters of verbal pinching. Whenever he gets the chance, he will pinch someone with his powerful words. He just waits for the right moment to strike with his words. His other name is Shenapoti. Why we call him Shenapoti? Because in the exam hall he keeps on writing till the last minute like a brave soldier fighting in the battlefield until he falls.
No one really wants to get confused, but if you want to get confused, contact Shawon, he is the most 'confusing' guy among our friends. He gets confused and he will insist you to be equally confused. For instance, if you say that Alexander Grahambell is the inventor of telephone, Shawon will say no, maybe it was Newton who invented telephone. And if you do not know who is the inventor of telephone, then you will want to believe him. And later on we will have a big argument on who is the inventor of telephone. When he will come to know that the inventor of telephone is actually Grahambell he would say sorry. Now guys, please don't get confused, the inventor of telephone actually is Grahambell. "Zara Jhoom Jhoom", "Hunzoooooor", now don't get confused again because it is not Himesh, it is our very own Amir, the only Himesh-freak in our circle. He sings Himesh's songs pretty well with his nasal voice. He is very helpful about anything. OH! He always hangs around with his female friends (or girlfriends?). If we ask what you were doing with those girls, he says, "Come on guys, they are like my sisters". And we are like, "OO-O-O-OH!!" Mousum AKA Metal is one of the most damn-care type of persons I have ever seen in my life! He is so 'damn-care' that he doesn't care about anything, I mean anything. He is a real music freak and you just ask him the name of any singer; you will get the answer almost immediately. He is a very good Bass player, and I am quite sure he is one of the best bass guitarists in Bangladesh. He just goes badly with his guitar. He is the master of tapping. He is also a very good drummer; he is so good that he plays double paddle bass with the single paddle bass! He is really a talented guy and God has given him something very special. I really admire him.

Well, that was all about the Perfect Circle. We have much affection for each other and we always try to help each other. We hang around in the campus together, discussing about the latest underground concerts here and
there (we are just one heck of a music freak guys), we go to the reading room together (obviously not to study!!!), we go there just to have a little fun and Mousum just keeps on flirting with 'you-know-who' (sorry dost). We do lots of foorti together and we do lots of Ajaira Pechal together in the campus.
As there is open credit system in IUB, sometimes we just cannot manage to hang around together, but we try to meet for a while at least. One thing very interesting about the circle is, none of us have any Valentine and probably ours one is the only circle in the campus without any Valentines.
I forgot to introduce myself. Faria is my best friend and she calls me 'idiot'. Well, that's what I am, an idiot!

A short English course at AUST

Flora Roseline Nelson

Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology (AUST) is a very renowned private university in Dhaka. I am a fresher in this institution in the fall semester, 2006. When I got admitted the office staff gave me a routine of a compulsory English course of 8 days. The authority divided every department in a very efficient way, so that each department could get equal classes every week. We had a 3-day per week English course. It started on 3rd October and lasted till 19th October. Our teacher was Ms Humayra Binte Bahar, a former student of Dhaka University in the English department. She taught us how to communicate with others in English. Each day she made two students stand up and asked them to talk on any topic in English. She said that, “If you make mistakes there is no harm. By making mistakes you can at least learn how to speak. I am here to help you”. Most of the students were from Bengali medium. So, this short English course was very helpful for us. At least we had learnt how to speak properly. We thank the authority of AUST for giving us this opportunity.
