IEEE Paper Contest:
Intrepid participation by KUETI@Ns

Upcoming engineers, want to be a part of global Tech? Have you ever thought of joining IEEE? Those who aren't that much familiar with IEEE, let me refresh your memory a bit. IEEE is the largest international Organization for Electrical and Electronic Engineers. As an Engineer you can pursuit your dreams of showing your true colours in international arena by joining IEEE. As the member of IEEE you get lots of benefits throughout your engineering career. Lots of scholarships, awards, contests, technical helps, journals and digital library facilities are available for students and professional engineers from 143 countries.

“Paper contest”-is one of the most competitive Contests organized by IEEE each year for 4th year students. Lots of young talents submit their own thesis paper or technical paper to light their judicious thought. Raihan Masud a Computer Science and Engineering student of Khulna University of Engineering Technology (KUET) showed his true talent on IEEE paper contest last year. For the first time for Bangladesh, he won “Lance Staford Larsont best student contest-2006” which was announced on April 2007 for his outstanding technical paper. His paper was about “Next Generation Ubiquitous Healthcare using Biosensors & Heterogeneous mobile networks: scenarios with system architectures”. The prize money of this contest was $500. To prepare the technical paper he worked under direct supervision of Prof. Dr. M. M. A. Hashem. Dr. M. M. Hafizur Rahman also shared his experience in some special points. The main concept was however a very effective one for present society- Healthcare Everywhere. It means a person is able to take medical facility at any moment at any time and also most importantly at any place. In this regard bio-sensors and mobile networks are supposed to be used as medium. Communication between patient and doctor is a special factor. Naturally we can't find a person for helping someone who may be experiencing a dangerous accident in a jungle area or outside locality. At the moment bio-sensors sent data using wireless network to the nearest hospital or patient's family doctor. Then hospital authority takes early steps to rescue the person. On the other hand doctors can give healthcare by using patient's previous records. It is quite a long time procedure and to overcome it a PDA is used which can be used to store patient's previous case history in quick succession. A Person will get an identity number from which a doctor can easily identify patient diseases and other records with a single click. This was the gist of his paper. However he was the president of IEEE KUET branch and for better performance on his entire academic carrier he also got the “Best active student member” prize worth 500$. So cheer up boys. It was truly a matter of honor not only for the KUET students but also for Bangladeshis. We believe Bangladeshi students can always play a part in the stage of international information and technology and our favourite senior Raihan Bhai has just proved it, so our heartiest congratulations to him.
