UIU Vice Chancellor Dr. Rezwan Khan Selected for BAS-Gold Medal Award 2005

Vice Chancellor of United International University (UIU), Professor Dr. M. Rezwan Khan has been selected for the BAS-Gold Medal 2005 in Physical Sciences (Senior Group). This selection is a proof of his excellent work and contributions in the field of research and general progress of Physical Sciences in Bangladesh.

Professor Dr. M. Rezwan Khan served as a senior Professor in the Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET).

He obtained his B.Sc. in Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) from BUET in the year 1980 and completed his M.Sc. in 1982 and PhD in 1986 respectively, from University College London, UK. He joined as a lecturer in the EEE Department of BUET in 1990. From 1992 to 1994 he worked as an Associate Professor at the University of Bahrain, and rejoined in BUET in 1994. In 1996 he was promoted to Professor. At present Prof. Khan is the Vice Chancellor of United International University.

Prof. Khan supervised more than 20 post-graduate research projects and 15 other funded projects. He has more than 40 publications in international journals, 35 international conference papers and has published a number of books. He is a Fellow of Bangladesh Academy of Science, senior member of IEEE and member of Institute of Engineers, Bangladesh.

Orientation of the DU Faculty of Business Studies Held at TSC

The Student-Guideline and Counselling Office of University of Dhaka organized an orientation programme for the freshers of the Faculty of Business Studies for the session 2006-2007. The programme was held at the TSC Auditorium on 7th May 2007. Vice-Chancellor of University of Dhaka Professor S.M.A. Faiz was the Chief Guest. Among others, the Proctor, student advisors to different departments, the Librarian of the University Library, and the Directors and Assistant Directors of different Offices related to extra curricular activities were present at the function. The orientation started with a one-minute silence in memory of Fazlul Karim Evan, a first year student of the Marketing Department who recently passed away in an accident in the river Padma. Professor S.M.A. Faiz welcomed all the freshers to the premises of this prestigious institution of higher education. Emphasizing on regular Teacher-Student interaction, he termed the students as "Junior Scholars" and the teachers as "Senior Scholars". He also inspired them to keep up their scholarly attitude in the future through utilizing the resources of this prestigious University. The programme was attended by the newly admitted students of the Faculty of Business Studies. Among them, four students from the respective departments shared their feelings before the audience as proud students of this 'Oxford of the East'. The programme ended with the speech from the Director of Student-Guideline and Counselling Office Professor Hamida Akhter Begum.

JIMC outlook express

Jahurul Islam Medical College (JIMC) has launched a web site, www.jimedcol.org, through which one can get information regarding admission in Jahurul Islam Medical College and Hospital, as well as hospital facilities etc. The institution is affiliated with Dhaka University, Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BMDC) and World Health Organization (WHO). The site has mailing facilities for inquiry if a visitor has any. JIMC also publishes a medical journal called Jahurul Islam Medical Journal (JIMJ) twice a year with the aim to provide a forum for publication of new findings pertaining to medical science since July 2005. JIMJ gives you a lot of information, which helps medical professionals.

Workshop at NUB, Khulna Campus

A day long workshop entitled “Learning & Teaching English: Role of Teachers” was held on May 4, 2007 at the Khulna Campus of Northern University Bangladesh. The workshop, organized jointly by English Department of Northern University Bangladesh, Khulna Campus, and English Discipline of Khulna University aimed at improving the quality and method of teaching English in school and college levels. English teachers of different schools and colleges of Khulna, Bagerhat, Jessore, and Satkhira attended the workshop. The opening session of the workshop began at 10:a.m with prof. Dr. Sadruddin Ahammed in the chair. Prof. Dr. M. Shamsul Haque, vice chancellor of Northern University Bangladesh was present in the opening session as the chief guest. The opening session was followed by two technical sessions. The first technical session entitled “Learning and Teaching English as a 'Global Language' was facilitated by Mahmuda Nasrin, Associate Professor of English Discipline, Khulna University, and the second technical session entitled “English Language Teaching” was conducted by veteran professor Dr, Sadruddin Ahammed, Head, Department of English, Northern University Bangladesh. Dr. Emdadul Haq, Dean, School of Arts and Humanities & professor of English Discipline of Khulna University conducted the colloquium.

EPDC Celebrates 2nd Anniversary

EPDC (EWU Poetry & Drama Club) celebrated its 2nd Anniversary on 12 April 2007, two days before Pahela Baishakh. The members of the club did their best to turn the event into a memorable one through their performance in front of a large audience that contained not only EWU students but also guests from North South University and BRAC University. The program included several recitations in-between two dramas. “Paduka Bistar”, a new one-act drama, was the first performance by the club. It reintroduced, and retold from contemporary perspective, Rabindranath Tagore's “Juto Abishkaar”. Actors in this drama were: Bonny (as 'Raja'), Sadia (as 'Rani'), Dweep (as 'Montri'), Tonmoy (as 'Vaabhuk') and Arif (as 'Sipahsalaar').
