Job Fair and BBA Completion ceremony-
“Career Expo” with Swapnaghuri

Md.Abdullah-Al-Faruk

The students of BBA 10th batch, Department of Marketing, University of Dhaka, organized a job fair and an event for commemorating the BBA completion on July 14, 15 and 18, 2008 at Faculty of Business Studies premises and T.S.C auditorium of the University of Dhaka respectively. It was a fascinating exhibition as numerous companies participated in the job fair. “Career Expo” brought an excellent opportunity for the employers to get the right candidate for their organization and also they promoted their products and services. The fair was also followed by the seminar on career planning and skill development. The HR officials and HR experts from local and multinational organizations gave their respected speech on various issues relating to career planning and career development.

The program entitled “Career Expo '08”, a rich venture, was organised by the students of BBA 10th batch, Department of Marketing, University of Dhaka. Career Expo is all about Job fair that emphasized on career planning and skill development for the graduates, post graduates and would be graduates. The main objective of this event is to make the students prepare for the upcoming battle of professional life in the corporate arena and to develop and sustain relationship of the faculty students with corporate houses.

The Job Fair not only helped the students get their jobs but it also was a huge source of getting internship for a lot of students of different departments of DU. Only academic excellence is not enough to ensure a quality job. There are certainly other qualities that one needs to master to impress the employer. In a job fair, a job seeker gets to know about various key factors like: how to face an interview; how to prepare a convincing CV; how to plan for career in a proper way; what are the requirements of a leading corporate house etc. In a developing country, corporate houses are on the look of talented individuals and job seekers tend to look for high salary jobs. So a Job Fair bridges the gap and strengthens the communication between the two.

The slogan of the event was “Turning challenges into opportunities”. The colourful event featured the participation of eleven corporate houses including Prime Bank Limited, Mutual Trust Bank Limited, ACI limited, Pacific Bangladesh Telecom Ltd (Citycell), Rahimafrooz, HRC Group of Companies, Bombay Sweets & Company Ltd, Elite Cosmetics Ltd, Roxy paints, Jobstreet.com, Voice of Business. Participation by these corporate houses attracted an overwhelming crowd of business graduates, job seekers and students of all disciplines of DU as well as private universities.

For the two days the stalls remained intensely crowded and thousands of CVs were dropped. Not only the graduates, but also students who will pass out within a very short time also dropped their CVs. For example, Maher a student of BBA of DU final year came to the fair with huge hope and aspiration. He submitted his CV in 6 corporate houses. Imran Hossain, a student of BBA, Marketing Department said “I actually came to the fair to know about the job facilities and I think I have succeeded. This job fair will play a significant role in my career. "The fair offers me a rare chance of getting valuable information on how to face an interview," said another student named Rafsan from Management Department, DU. Similar opinions were offered by other students like Lisa, Kamal, Nishad, Koushik, Rajib, Russel and many others. The key sponsoring firm was PRIME Bank Limited. The Media Partners were NTV, Jobstreet.com, Radio Foorti. Official beverage partner was mojo of Akij Foods and Beverage Limited.
