EWU signs Agreement with Navana on New Campus Construction Project

East West University signed an agreement with Navana Constructions Limited on 23 July-2008 on the new campus construction project at Aftab Nagar, Dhaka. On behalf of the University, Professor Md. Kamrul Hasan, acting Vice Chancellor of EWU signed the agreement with Mr. Shafiul Islam, Chairman of Navana Constructions Limited. It is expected that the construction work of the permanent campus of EWU at Aftab Nagar will be completed by 7 June 2011. Mr. Jalaluddin Ahmed, President, Board of Directors, Dr. Rafiqul Huda Chaudhury, Dr. Saidur Rahman Laskar, Mr. M. A. Munim and Mr. H.N. Ashequr Rahman, members Board of Directors, Treasurer and Deans were present in this signing ceremony.

Seminar of IEEE on 'Professional skills for global engineering practice' at BUET

Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (IEEE) BUET student branch arranged a seminar on 'Professional skills for global engineering practice' on 2 July, at the seminar room of Civil department of BUET. The program welcomed Professor Dr. Harunur Rashid, University of West Florida, USA as the chief speaker and Professor A. M. M Safiullah, Vice chancellor, BUET as the chief guest. Professor Dr. Aminul Hoque, Head of the department of Electrical and Electronics engineering (EEE), Professor Dr. Ainal Hoque (EEE), Professor Dr. Shahidul Islam Khan (EEE), Professor Dr. Kamrul Huda (EEE) were among the distinguished guests.

Dr. Harunur Rashid passed from the EEE department of BUET and was a former professor of the department. He has tought as a Professor in more than thirteen renowned Universities throughout the world. In the seminar he told about his experiences of teaching of several universities and various academic activities that he has been involved throughout his life. He delivered a wonderful speech on the various professional skills that an engineer need to keep pace with the progressive world. Professor Rashid gave emphasis on the strong foundation of basic concepts for the engineers. He also revealed various scopes and fields of telecommunication engineering of the future world. It was a lively seminar with active participation of both the audience and the speakers.


Help save life of an RU student

Shaswata Satya, a 1st year student of Mass Communication and Journalism department of Rajshahi University (RU) ,has been suffering from “Ankylosing Spondylitis”, a disease that causes the bones to go brittle gradually. He has been suffering since 1998.

Shaswato needs Tk 35 lakh for his treatment, which is quite impossible for his father, a school teacher to collect.

At this stage, the family has become helpless after spending about five lakh taka for the treatment of Shaswata.

Friends, teachers, students, employees of Mass Communication and Journalism department of RU have urged all to come forward to help save the life of Shaswata.

'He is one of our most intimate friends. During the past two years, we spent a lot of memorable moments. Now, our beloved friend is fighting for life in a hospital bed,' reads a statement of Shaswata's friends.

At the press briefing Shaswata Satya, his father Arun Kumar Shaswata, Professor Mass Communication and Journalism department Professor Abdullah Al Mamun, Professor Satil Siraj, Professor Selim Reza Newton, Professor Mustak Ahmed, Professor Tanvir Ahmed, Professor Akthter Jahan, former students of the department Ruhul Q. Sumon, Abdul Maleq Tuhin, Musbah Azad, F. I Dipu and other students and officials of the department were present.

ELC starts journey at DIU

English Literary Club (ELC) took birth at the Department of English in Daffodil International University (DIU) on July 20, 2008. On the occasion Professor Dr. Aminul Islam, Vice-Chancellor of DIU, cut a cake and unwrapped the constitution of the club for putting his endorsement signature on it. He addressed the gathering of teachers and students at the auditorium. He said that the students would be greatly benefited from the club as it would organise regular sessions of extra-curricular activities like debate, extempore speech, skit, recitation, word wizard etc. for enhancing English language skills of its members. A four-member committee has already taken the responsibility of coordinating the club activities. The committee comprises Ms. Umme Kulsum, Mr. Mustafizur Rahman, Ms. Nahid Kaiser and Mr. Rasel Howlader - all faculty members of English Department. The inaugural ceremony was addressed by, among others, Dr. Binoy Barman, Head of the Department of English, Dr. Abu Taher, Head of the Department of Computer Science, and Mr. Masud Ibn Rahman, Head of the Department of Commerce. Ms. Shamsi Ara Huda, lecturer in English, conducted the programme. The inaugural ceremony was followed by a cultural function participated by the students and teachers, who entertained the audience with their performance of song, dance, drama, recitation and debate.
