A life fading away-
story of Sharmin Quazi Bonny

Shah Ali Riad

NOTHING is more painful and unjust than to see a person who has the life and spirit of a true fighter slowly slipping away from this world, even though the right steps can bring about a recovery. Today, right in front of us we are seeing someone fading away someone extraordinary. This is the story of Sharmin Quazi Bonny.

It was only a few years ago when she was one of the brightest students of Viqarunnisa Noon College. She had every prospect of having a wonderful future. But the world came crashing down when one day she felt a little sick. Doctors couldn't detect her problem properly and she was given treatment, which temporarily improved her conditions. However, after her SSC examination, the symptoms came back and this time with a higher intensity. It went like this for eight months. Then she was taken to India where she was diagnosed as having Ovarian Cyst, quite a lethal disease. However, Bonny was not the kind of girl to let go of all hope! She started preparing for her HSC exams. She went through the entire HSC exam while staying in a hospital. After eight months of treatment after her HSC exam, she sat in an admission test for North South University in summer, 2007. She joined North South University that semester as a student of Life Science Department and her grades were on the top of the chart. In the campus, her friends never knew she was suffering from a deadly disease; they knew her as a lively, strong human being. She had this amazing ability to connect with people very easily and deeply. In a word, she was admired by everyone and was called 'the life of the Life Science Department'.

But life was simply too cruel to let this wonderful human being live a normal life. The problems of her body went from bad to worse and she started to have symptoms that even worried the doctors. They found that she is suffering from auto-immune disease, which means that the antibody the components of the body that are there to protect her health from diseases is actually going destroying the body cells!

Today, she needs to be taken abroad for treatment but she cannot afford it. NSU SSC, NSU SS, life-science dept. and others are making their best efforts to raise funds for her. However, this isn't enough. We need to fight for her the way she had fought with her fate all her life. With all the love and care she has spread in the world, she deserves to live and it's up to all of us to make that happen.

Every little contribution can sum up to make a huge difference. I would urge everybody to please contribute as much as possible to save the life of a wonderful human being; We have seen humanity conquering over fat, let the miracle happen for one more time.

“A champion is him, who gets up even when he knows he can't” - this is Bonny's favorite quote. For once, we seek all your help to make our champion be adorned with the trophy of her life.
