Condolence meeting on Samudra Gupta & Mahamudul Haque

A condolence meeting on late poet Shamudra Gupta and litterateur Mahamudul Haque was held last week at the Teachers-Students Centre (TSC) of the Islamic University in Kushtia. The meeting was organized by Abritti-Abritti Parishad, a recitation council of the University. IU English department Professor Dr. Rashid Askari, also a renowned columnist, spoke as chief guest in the meeting presided over by President of Abritti-Abritti Parishad ShafiQul Islam Shafiq.

A recitation programme was followed by the condolence meeting. The programme was presented by Abritti-Abritti Parishad member Bristi. Members of the council including Hasnat, Farhana, Tumpa, Anup Poddar, Zahid, Shoma, Arefin and Biplob anong others recited various poems on the occasion.


Seminar at ADUST

A seminar on "State of service quality in various sectors: Implications for Business Education in Bangladesh" organized by School of Business and Economics, Atish Dipankar University of Science and Technology was held on 24th July, 2008, at Taher Tower, Gulshan.

Two papers were presented in the seminar by Prof. Syed Saad Andaleeb, University of Pennsylvania, USA and another paper written jointly by Prof. Dr. Victoria Wise, University of Tasmania, Australia and Prof. Dr. Muhammad Mahboob Ali, Chairman, School of Business and Economics, ADUST.

In the seminar, the session Chairman was Prof. Dr. Kabir Hossain Talukder, Treasurer, Dean of Faculty of Agriculture, Biological Sciences & Biotechnology and Registrar, ADUST while Chief Guest was Dr. M. A. Hamid Miah, IRRI, Country Representative , Dhaka. Special Guest was Prof. Dr. Abul Hossain Sikder, Pro Vice Chancellor, ADUST.

Among others Dr. Debi Narayan Rudra Paul, Associate Prof., Md. Nazrul Islam Khan, Assistant Prof., Mr. Badal Kumar Ghosh, Assistant Prof., Mr. Sohel Al Beruni, Asst. Registrar, AKM Rashid U Nabi, Faruque Hussain, Sayed Afzalul Abedin, Tajmeela Jahan, Md. Asaduzzaman, Nahid Akther Lecturer, also spoke on the occasion.

In the seminar speakers stressed upon improving service quality in Bangladesh and they also recommended that change of attitude and mind set can add value to improve service quality.


CfL launched at BRAC University

BRAC University has recently launched the CfL - BU (Centre for Languages - BRAC University) at the BRAC Centre Inn. The ceremony was attended by Mr. Mahmood Hasan, Registrar of BRAC University, Pro-Vice Chancellor Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed, and Director of Human Resources, BRAC Ms. Sheepa Hafiza.

The ceremony began with a welcome address by the Director of Cfl, Mrs. Sarwat Abed, followed by speeches from the chief guest Professor Nazrul Islam, Chairman, University Grants Commission and the Pro-Vice Chancellor, Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed. Award was given out to the winner of CfL's bookmark contest, and a diligent student shared her experiences with the program with the attendants. The ceremony ended with the Chief Guest inaugurating the centre's website.

CfL will now be offering courses in Bangla, Spanish, Chinese, Russian, Italian and French in addition to the module-based English courses, Business English course and Special Advanced Writing Course.


Architecture Week at NSU

The celebration of “Architecture Week” was held at North South University Department of Architecture on August 06, 2008. It included a week-long exhibition of students work, inter-university open architecture students design competition, film shows, interviews and two lectures. This year's speaker at the Annual Lecture Event was Arc.

Lillian Tay from Malaysia, who gave a speech, one for the architects and the other for the students of architecture.

Dr. Hafiz GA Siddiqi, VC, NSU, inaugurated the exhibition along with Engr. MA Awal, Ex-President, REHAB, special guest Arc. Lillian Tay, teachers of the Department, and a large number of students.


Annual Cultural Program organized by AUST - BUSINESS CLUB

An enjoyable Annual Cultural Program followed by a Farewell for outgoing Business Students organized by Business Club in association with the School of Business of Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology was held on July 27, 2008 at the auditorium of Central Kachi-Kanchar Mela. Accordingly, AUST Business Club published a Souvenir named 'Rainbow' to memorize that occasion forever. Business faculty members were kindly present on that occasion. The event was begun at early evening by an introductory speech of the convener of working committee of the Club. Business students of the University participated in and also celebrated the program. Closeup1 and Dhaka Metro were also the notable participants. There was also an arrangement for nice refreshments. At the end, outgoing Business Students were felt honored by receiving crests from newcomers of the Business School.


Intl. Conference on Biotechnology at BAU

A two day International Congress on 'Biotechnology in Animal Reproduction (ICBAR)' was held at the Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin auditorium of Bangladesh Agricultural University(BAU) in collaboration with ICBAR, Japan on August 6-7. National Professor and former Vice-Chancellor of Bangladesh Agricultural University was the chief guest while BAU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Akhtar Hossain was present as chief patron at the inaugural session. Eminent Japanese Scientist Professor Dr. Gentaro Oguri, President, Association of ICBAR presided over the inaugural session while Professor Dr. Tatsuki Suzuki Vice-President, Association of ICBAR delivered the address of welcome.

Bangladesh, representatives from Japan, South Korea, China, India, Egypt, New Zealand, Canada, U.K., Italy, Bulgaria and Sweden also attended the conference on 'Reproductive Biotechnology' where 50 research papers and articles were presented by the researchers.


Freshers' Day at East Delta University

“Private universities in Bangladesh need to ensure quality education to cope with the challenges of today's competitive world,” observed Professor Dr. Syed Giasuddin Ahmed, Vice Chancellor of East Delta University (EDU), in his inaugural speech on the “Freshers' Day” organized at EDU's campus in Chittagong on Thursday, 31st July 2008.

The prominent dignitaries present on this occasion were Professor Dr. Debashish Chakraborty of Central Michigan University (USA) who is also EDU's visiting faculty and Board of Advisers' Chairman, Professor Dr. Habibul H. Khondker of Zayed University (Abu Dhabi), EDU's visiting faculty and Board of Advisers' Member, Professor Rebecca Chakraborty of Northwood University (USA), EDU's visiting faculty of Board of Advisers' Member, Mr. Sayeed Al Noman, Director in-charge of EDU's Project Management, Ms. Sazia Abdullah, Director in-charge of EDU's Student Services and Corporate Relations, and Mr. Mohammad Ishaque, Regional Head of AB Bank (Chittagong).

Among the leading faculty members of EDU present on the Freshers' Day were Professor Dr. Masud Mahmood of Chittagong University's English Department, Professor Dr. Shahadat Hossain of Chittagong University's Computer Science Department, Professor Dr. Ganesh Chandra Ray of Chittagong University's Mathematics Department, and Professor Gulam Rabbani of Chittagong University's Marketing Department.

Guest of Honor Dr. Mehraz Jahan of New York Institute of Technology, EDU's Acting Registrar Mr. Sajal Kanti Barua, and EDU's Faculty Mr. Kamruddin Parvez were also present on the occasion.


'Winning in the Career-the Challenges' at ULAB

Mr. Subeh Khan, Trade Marketing Planning Director, Asia Pacific Region of Ogilvy & Mather (O & M), one of the world's largest advertising agency (largest in Asia) gave a seminar at the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh on August 6, 2008. Attended by the students and faculty members of the ULAB Mr. Khan's seminar focused on the theme 'Winning in the Career-the Challenges.' Mr. Khan who hails from Bangladesh and whose parent company is the British American Tobacco Company is working for O & M under an 'Executive Talent Exchange Program' that functions amongst the clients of O & M which includes such global companies as Unilever, IBM, CISCO, Coca-Cola, Ford, Pitney Bowes, Volvo, Nestle, Amex, Mattel, BAT and others. Mr. Khan who has experience in working in Bangladesh and international locations is currently working for a mega project in Shanghai, that involves Unilever and is based in Hong Kong. He shared his experience with the audience and felt that provided one had the right attitude, efficiency and determination and did not shy away from competition there is a career to be made in the international arena. Mr. Khan felt that now it is time for the present generation to prepare themselves and look beyond national frontiers for career building. Professor Abdul Mannan of ULAB's School of Business moderated the seminar.


IUBAT Drama Club

International University of Business Agriculture and Technology (IUBAT) has lunched a Drama Club for staging renowned plays of versatile genius across the globe with a view to flourishing acting talent amongst students for learning about historical development of drama and theaters.

The new initiative of the varsity authority has aroused enthusiasm amongst both male and female students having cultural background for enrolling names in the selection process.


Financial Quiz at JU

DBA Business Club organized a day long Financial Quiz Competition on 9th August at Jahangirnagar University campus.Only the BBA students,who had already completed their 4th semester successfully,participated in the competition.With a view to increase interest about finance among the students,DBA Business Club arranged the competition.It was a great opportunity for the students to increase their capability to solve financial problems and justify their depth of knowledge.
