MBM students celebrate course ending day

On 24 December 2009, Masters of Bank Management (MBM) 12th batch students of BIBM (Bangladesh Institute of Bank Management) celebrated their 'Course Ending Day'. A day long programme was held on BIBM campus with the participation of director general of BIBM, directors from different departments, teachers, officials and students attended the colourful programme.

The programme was inaugurated by cutting a cake followed by different sessions like tree plantation, fun games and films show.

 

ULAB Book Fair

University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) organised a daylong Book Fair at its Dhanmondi Campus. Around 16 different publishers and organisation participated at the fair.

Renowned educationalist and former Vice Chancellor of Jahangirnagar University, Professor Zillur Rahman Siddique was the chief guest at the book fair. ULAB's VC Professor Rafiqul Islam and Professor Mohit-ul Alam, Head, Department Of English, ULAB also spoke on the occasion. Among others, Professor Abdul Mannan, Business Administration, ULAB Registrar, Khaled Khan and other senior faculty-members were present at the occasion.

The inaugural session was conducted by Anis Pervez , Associate professor, Department of Media Studies and Journalism, ULAB and Coordinator, Library Affairs.


International GIS Day Celebrated at JU

The Department of Geography and Environment, Jahangirnagar University (JU) joined together with 80 countries around the world to celebrate the International Geographic Information System (GIS) Day on November 18. Globally GIS is held each year in the third week of November on the Wednesday during Geography Awareness Week. The Department of Geography and Environment brought out a colourful rally and a discussion highlighting the importance of this international event. Teachers and students from JU donned GIS Day T-shirts and rallied through the campus. The rally ended amid festivity with the cutting of a GIS Day cake.

Vice Chancellor of JU Professor Shariff Enamul Kabir, Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Mohammed Muniruzzaman, Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Md. Forhad Hossain, Dean of Social Science Faculty Professor Sheikh Md. Monjurul Haq, Chairman of GIS, RS and IT Committee of the Department Professor M. Nazrul Islam and Convener of the event Jamail Basir took part in the rally.

In a discussion on GIS Day 2009, held in the conference room of the department, the audience was told that JU had celebrated this day for the third consecutive year to create interest about GIS among students of different disciplines as well as to make people aware of the new directions and dimensions of geography today.

 

Seminar on Semiconductor Devices at RUET

A seminar on “Semiconductor Devices: Evolution and Future Trends” was held on 31 December 2009 at CSE seminar room, Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET). This seminar was organised by IEEE RUET student branch. Professor Sirajul Karim Chowdhury, Vice Chancellor of RUET inaugurated the seminar as the chief guest. Professor Muhammad Abdul Goffar Khan, branch counselor of IEEE RUET student branch, Professor Md. Asharaful Alam, Director of Student Welfare of RUET, Md. Delwar Hossain, Head of the Dept. of Electronic and Telecommunication Engineering, along with a few teachers and students of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Electronic and Telecommunication Engineering Dept. The seminar was addressed by Md. Tanvir Hasan, Faculty of American International University Bangladesh (AUIB) and Maruf Hossain, Assistant Engineer Innovation for high performance Microelectronics, Germany.

 

New Year Celebration at SUST

Department of English of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology celebrated the New Year through a grand cultural programme. The 9th batch of the English Department organised the programme where the audiences were fascinated by the cultural presentation with rendition of songs, recitation and staging a short drama performed by the students. Before the cultural programme, a discussion took place where the teachers of the department delivered their speech welcoming the New Year.

"We need to use English in our everyday life; so celebrating English New Year could be another portion of our Bengali culture and through this we can share our culture with others where we can have the opportunity to take our culture to the greater part, "said Assistant Professor Mohammed Rajik Miah. Md. Sikander Ali and Sayeef Ahmed, Asst. Prof. of the Dept. also took part in the discussion.

Coordinator of English Council Mohammad Shafiqul Islam, Lecturer, Department of English, congratulated the organizers for arranging such a grand and successful programme.

By celebrating a successful New Year's event for the first time, students are looking forward to celebrating different important days marking their significance.

Annual Cultural Program of Naila Memorial Fleur Tutorial

Naila Memorial Fleur Tutorial organised its Annual Cultural Programme on 24 December 2009. The day was selected not only for celebrating the programme but also to motivate the students further. School students worked hard to prove their skills and to give a new look to the school.

Through many activities, they learned to take responsibilities, to be supportive to the teachers and most importantly they learned to work in a team. It was enlightened by the brilliant performance of the students who participated in dancing, singing, reciting poems etc. Participation by teachers added extra delight to the audience. All the guardians were invited on the school campus to observe the fun-filled occasion.

 

Badhon Celebrates at JU

Badhon, a group of voluntary blood donors, Jahangirnagar University unit, observed its 7th anniversary of its existence on 5 January. Marking its anniversary, activists of Badhon brought out a colourful rally from its office adjoining the old transport of the university and paraded around the campus. Finishing the rally, activists gathered in the office premises where JU pro-vice chancellor, Prof Farhad Hossen cut the cake while JU treasurer, Prof Nasir Uddin and Advisers of Badhon were also present in the programme.
