Celebration of International Day for Elimination Violence against Women
Women all over the world are facing sexual and gender related violence every single day in their lives. Consequently, they lose their enthusiasm, efficiency and potentiality. To make this world a better place for women and eliminate violence against women UN General Assembly designated November 25 as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women by recognising the urgent need for the universal application to women of the rights and principles with regard to equality, liberty, integrity and dignity of all human beings.
Wearing pink coloured ribbons and hanging posters with messages to stop violence against women the students of Asian University for Women and members of UNYSAB (United Nations Youth and Students Association of Bangladesh) AUW Chapter formed a human chain. UNYSAB AUW Chapter has organized and attended several programs like poster presentation and poster competition, movie and documentary show on violence against women related issues, publishing magazine entitled "PINK HOPE: A Call for a Better Tomorrow for All Women ", workshop on human right and discussion session on "Women and Law in Bangladesh: Problems and Possible Solutions", conducted by Professor Saira Rahman Khan, School of Law, BRAC University.
Although the celebration was for a day, this is not the end of the participation of UNYSAB AUW Chapter's members on elimination of violence against women. UNYSAB AUW to work with a local NGO named YPSA, from where they will be closely working to eliminate violence against women. We believe that we have the power to make a difference in the lives of those women who encounter violence and to make a better world where man and women are treated equally.
