Indonesian students of Daffodil International University

The English Department of Daffodil International University (DIU) organised a freshers' reception and cultural function on March 2, 2011.

Professor Dr. Aminul Islam, Vice Chancellor of DIU, inaugurated the programme. Among others, Dr. Fokhray Hossain, Registrar of DIU, and Dr. Binoy Barman, Head of English Department, delivered a speech.

Attired in traditional dresses, a group of Indonesian students performed a religious song in Bahasa language on the stage. The programme was supervised by Umme Kulsum, coordinator of English Literary Club (ELC) and was conducted by Syed Raihanul Islam and Moazzem Hossain, students of the English Department.


Fresher's Reception and Farewell

The department of Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering (BGE) of Islamic University in Kushtia celebrated the fresher's reception and farewell on February 19, 2011.

“Biotechnology is essential to build hunger free Bangladesh” was the slogan of the ceremony. The day long programme emphasised on the importance of Biotechnology and spreading the benefits of this knowledge at the root level of the country.

This year BGE department of Islamic university in Kushtia (IUK) arranged an orientation ceremony for its 13th batch (session 2010-2011) and farewell ceremony for the 5th batch (session 2003-2004) at the auditorium of the science faculty building.

IU Vice Chancellor and founder chairman of BGE department Professor Dr. M Alauddin was present as chief guest and IU pro-VC Prof. Dr. M Kamaluddin, Dr. Saidur Rahman, Chairman of National Institute of Biotechnology (NIB), were also present as chief guests. The programme was presided over by Dr. Rezuanul Islam, Chairman of Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering Department.

Julfikar Shaheen Titu on behalf of the 5th batch welcomed the freshers and Mamun Al Asad delivered a speech on behalf of the first year students.

A colorful cultural programme was arranged for this occasion including dance, song, Biojatrapala, comedy etc.


Confucius Institute celebrates February 14 as China Day

On the occasion of the 5th Anniversary, the Confucius Institute of North South University (NSU) celebrated February 14 as “China Day.” A seminar and photo exhibition on China and a musical performance by the Art Troupe of Beijing University of International Business and Economics has highlighted the day. His Excellency Zhang Xianyi, the Ambassador of People's Republic of China was present as the chief guest. Azimuddin Ahmed, Chairman, Board of Trustees, NSU graced the occasion as special guest while Wang Yu, Political Counselor and Qian Kaifu,Cultural Counselor of the Chinese Embassy, were present as the Guests of Honor. Professor Hafiz G. A. Siddiqui, Vice Chancellor, North South University, chaired the occasion.


Bangladesh Foundation of Film Societies

Bangladesh Foundation of Film Societies elected new office bearers this year. Professor Abdus Selim has been elected as the president of the of BFFS and following office bearers have been elected for the designations of, Vice President M. Shariful Islam and Masud Rana, General Secretary Mohammed Shaeen Bin Abdul Hai, Treasurer A S M Mussabbir Tanim, Organising Secretary Bipob Shiraji, Publication Secretary Firoz Kabir and others filled different posts in the foundation.


EducationUSA Fair 2011

The American Centre, EducationUSA is organising an Education Fair from March 17-18, 2011. On March 17, the programme will be held at the BRAC Centre Inn from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm and on March 18 it will be held at ULAB University from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Around nine different universities from the United States of America will be present at the Education fair. The students will be able to talk to the representatives regarding matters of financial aid, applying for visa and navigate the USA visa application.


International Women's Day observed at IUB

The Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) celebrated International Woman's Day through a day long programme at its own campus on March 8, 2011. The celebration began with a mile walk from the campus through some parts of Bashundhara residential area; then back to the campus. The Following events were, reading extracts from various poems and novels encircling various aspects of womanhood, photography exhibition and staging of 'Mohua' a Kabbo Gitika of Dwija Bangshidas, directed by Dr. Akimun Rahman, Associate Professor, Department of Modern Languages, IUB. Prior to the celebration there was an essay writing competition on the topic 'The most important woman in you life' for which students were awarded at the inauguration of the ceremony.

The celebration was attended by Prof. M Omar Rahman, Vice Chancellor (in charge), Prof. Nazrul Islam, Director, School of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, Dr. Tanvir A khan, Registrar, Prof. Razia Sultana Khan, Head, Department of English and Department of Modern Languages, Dr. G M Shahidul Alam, Head, Department of Media and Communication, Dr. Akimun Rahman, Associate Professor, Department of Modern Languages and other junior faculty members and students of IUB.
