Renowned Actor Shahiduzzaman Selim visited IUB to conduct a grooming session with the students of Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) Theater Club on February 22, 2011. In this session, among the many things he talked about reading novels and how essential it is in theater practice. Momtaz Parvin Mumu, Lecturer, Media and Communication Department and Kazi Faruque Ahmed, Senior Manager, Division of Students Affairs (DoSA) were present at this session.

Seminar at NUB

Department of Law, Northern University Bangladesh (NUB) organised a seminar on “Media (Print and Electronic) Laws of Bangladesh: Problems and Prospects and Freedom of Press and Contempt of Court interface” on February 26, 2011 at Hotel Pan Pacific Sonargaon. Barrister Shafique Ahmed, Minister, Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Bangladesh was present as the chief guest.

Prof. Dr. A.W.M. Abdul Huq, Dean, Faculty of Law, NUB chaired the seminar while Prof. Dr. M Shamsul Haque, Vice-Chancellor, NUB delivered the inaugural speech. Barrister Khondaker M. S. Kawser presented the keynote paper. Prof. Dr. Syed Anwar Hossain, Editor, Daily Sun, M. Abu Bakar Siddique, Treasurer, Prof. Dr. Md. Nurul Islam, Registrar, NUB were also present. Among others, Prof. Dr. Md. Mir Akramuzzaman, Dean Faculty of Science, Additional Registrar and Proctor in Charge, Lt. Col. (Rtd.) Aqtedar Ahmed Siddiqui, faculty members and students of Dept. of Law were also present on the occasion.

Workshop on Translation Studies held on March 9 2011 at English Department of Atish Dipankar University of Science and Technology.

Chaired by A B M Rashedul Hassan, Treasurer and Registrar, the main keynote speaker was Haroonuzzaman a faculty member, Dept. of English, Independent University with Nurul Karim Nasim, Chairman, Dept. of English was the main discussant. Badre Alam, a faculty member and Sakur Mazid, a Travel writer and CEO of a realstate business man made a comment on the topic.

In the second session, Poet Nasir Ahmed, Associate Editor “Samakal” a Bangla national daily was given reception for getting Bngla Academy award 2011 in poety. Fahmeeda Qashem conducted the programme and Kazi Denar Sultana Bintee recited Naser Ahmed's two poems.
