A tour for climate change awareness

Climate change has been paved in the center of the world's environmental agenda. The major impact of climatic change will be imposed on fisheries and aquaculture as fish have a fairly narrow range of optimum temperatures related both to the species basic metabolism and the availability of food organisms. Small fish that migrate seasonally between rivers and floodplain for feeding and breeding will be at stake due to the drying up of the channel.

Students spreading climate change awareness

Keeping all these things in mind, students of 4th batch of the Faculty of Fisheries, Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University travelled across Khulna, Bagerhat, Chittangong, Cox's Bazar and Sylhet from January 28 to February 12 to create climate change awareness. The programme was designed as a study tour provided by the university, and the students marked their journey by creating climate change awareness across the country. To do this, all the twenty two participants wore T-shirts bearing the slogan to play one's own part to stop climate change. The initiative came from the guide teacher, Md Mahbubul Hassan who was an international climate champion 2010 selected by the British council, Bangladesh. The students have raised the climate change issue in Bangladesh Fisheries Research Institute, fish and shrimp processing plants, fish and shrimp hatcheries as well as people from different walks of life.
