Celebrations at Chartered University College

The ten year celebration of success by Chartered University College took place at the Hall of Fame of Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) on July 8, 2011.

Chairman (State Minister) of University Grants Commission of Bangladesh Dr A K Azad Chowdhury attended the occasion as the chief guest.

Benjir Ahmed, Member of Parliament, Hasanul Haque Inu, Member of Parliament, Mohua Rashid, Country Manager, ACCA Bangladesh, and Murray Keeler, Country Examinations Manager, British Council, Bangladesh were present as special guests.

During the daylong event, crests were distributed to students who had made outstanding results in the ACCA and CAT exam.


EWU Electronics Club Organised NEPEC-2011

National Electronic Project Exhibition and Competition (NEPEC-2011), a four day technology festival was held on East West University. This festival ended on June 28, 2011. East West University Electronics Club (EWUEC) organised the whole programme. On the first day of the festival there was a workshop on special technical software named PSpice and MATLAB. On the next day, scientific and technology based movie was displayed to promote new thoughts among the fresh mind.

In the project exhibition and competition there were 28 different types of projects from different universities all over the country.

The day long exhibition was inaugurated by the Dr Chowdhury Faiz Hossain, Dean of Faculty of Sciences and Engineering of East West University.

In the grand closing ceremony,Professor Jamilur Reza Chowdhury, former Vice Chancellor of BRAC University while Dr Chowdhury Faiz Hossain was present as special guest. The welcome speech was given by Dr Gurudas Mandal, Moderator East West University Electronics club who also announced the names of the winners of the quiz competition.


15th Amendment Restored

The Department of Law of State University of Bangladesh organised a seminar on “The Constitution 15th Amendment and its Impact” on July 9, 2011. Dr Asif Nazrul, Professor of Dhaka University and Advisor of Department of Law of State University and A Y M Ekram-ud-Daulah, Registrar of the University were present. Major General Dr M Shahjahan, Acting Vice Chancellor, State University of Bangladesh presided over the seminar.

Dr Asif Nazrul in his speech said that a good constitutional amendment has to strengthen protection of human rights, enhance good governance, ensure people's participation and enforce ability to certain economic rights which the 15th amendment has largely failed to accomplish.

The seminar was followed by an open session participated by the faculties and students of the Law Department of State University.

The Department of Development and Governance Studies (DDGS), Northern University Bangladesh (NUB) arranged a seminar on “Global Governance and Development: The Role of World Bank and Civil Society,” on July 8, 2011. The paper was presented by Dr Ishtiaq Hossain, Department of Political Science, International Islamic University Malaysia and Visiting Professor, Department of Development and Governance Studies, NUB. Dr Nazmul Ahsan Kalimullah, Advisor, Department of Development and Governance Studies (DDGS) was the discussant of the seminar. Dr M Shamsul Haque, Vice Chancellor, NUB was the chairman of the seminar. At the beginning of the seminar Dr Kazi Shahdat Kabir, Head, DDGS, NUB, gave the welcome address.

The VC Professor Dr M Shamsul Haque said that given increasing globalisations, the role of development agencies such as the World Bank will increase along with expanded role of the UNO.


East West University Debating

To encourage the future leaders of marketing, the Creative Marketing Club of East West University (EWU) has organised a debate competition, “Intra Marketing Debate 2011”. The main focus of this debate was to make a debate on the unsolved, grey and unexplored areas of marketing which have been incongruous for years. The competition was held for two days in the university auditorium, on June 30 and July 2, 2011.

Farhan Faruqui, Anamul Haque Rubai and Husna Ara, moderators of the club and faculty members of EWU were present at the programme.

The chief guest, president of Bangladesh Debate Federation (BDF), Dr Abdun Noor Tushar, stated that this is a good initiative by the university which help the students to enter into the competitive world of marketing.


3rd Syndicate Meeting

Under the Purview of Private University Act-2010, the 3rd Syndicate Meeting of Daffodil International University was held on July 9, 2011. The meeting was presided over by the Chairman of the Syndicate and Vice Chancellor of Daffodil International University Professor Dr M Lutfar Rahman. Md Rafiquzzaman, Joint Secretary (Audit and Law), Ministry of Education who was nominated by the Government of People's Republic of Bangladesh and Dr M M Sahidul Hassan, BUET who was nominated by University Grants Commission (UGC) as external members of DIU Syndicate were present in the meeting.

Other members present were, Professor Dr S M Mahabub Ul Haque Majumder, Dean, Faculty of Science and IT, Dr Md Golam Maowla Choudhury, Proctor and Head, Department of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering, Professor Dr M Mokarram Hossain, Faculty of Business and Economics, Dr Md Fokhray Hossain, Registrar, Md Emran Hossain and Md Khurshed Alam, both members of Board of Trustees, Daffodil International University.
