A Different New Year Celebration

Md Kamruzzaman Bhuiyan

A small effort to be on the side of the underprivileged.

People celebrate on New Year's Eve with much galore, because New Year means a lot. When the people all over the world were celebrating 31st night jovially, the students of Comilla University celebrated the night a little differently. They celebrated the night by distributing winter clothes to the poor people who live out on the roads, rail stations and slums.

Every year people all over the world waste a lot of money behind unnecessary things to celebrate the night, but no one thinks about the poor distressed people who have very little.

We, the few final year students of Management Studies Department of Comilla University, took the initiative to help the poor people who sometimes do not have a single cloth to deal with the cold.

When the idea of distributing the clothes to the poor people came to our mind we discussed the issue with our teachers.

All of the teachers of Management Studies Department, including the Chairman of Management Studies Department, Dr Mohammad Ahsan Ullah, gave us the financial and emotional support we needed.

Gradually, students of other batches of Managemnet Department, Marketing Department and other departments came forward to promote this effort. Students and teachers of Comilla Victoria College, Comillastha Homna Chhatro Kollan Porishad, also joined us in this venture.

We collected money and old winter cloths from students and teachers of Comilla University and Comilla Victoria College. We have also collected money by going door to door. .

With our little effort we tried to be on the side of the underprivileged.
